This stuff is killing me. Both of my twins are on special formula due to colic. From $8 a pound for the regular stuff to $20 a pound for the colic formula and they eat about a pound every 30 hours. $400 a month! Yikes, and I still have to buy 150 diapers a week. Can't wait to feed them cereal.

I'm not sure how much our formula costs a pound but its quite a bit more than the normal stuff, of course we only have one daughter to feed. The thing that really kills me is the day care, $219/week!

It's painful just to think about it. Thank goodness my wife lost her job for having children (no lie!). I can only imagine what it's like for people make minimum wage. The American Dream, as it was for post WWII America, is no longer.

Cant you sue for that? If you can prove that was the reason? Isn't that a big deal law like discrimination?

I know some places you can get cow corn and hay sileage for $0.25/lb. They won't know the difference...
If that was your childhood diet, I'll bet you have no problems with being regular...

If we had twins my wife would have to stay home anyway, the daycare costs would outweigh her wage!

That's what's so difficult about being a dual wage earner couple. It's great while you're DINKs, but after having a few kids, unless the lower wage is considerable, you're almost better off having just one wage earner.

The kiddies are more than worth it though IMHO... :)

She was employed at her job just under 12 months when she went out on maternity leave. FMLA protetion is afforded after 12 months at a job. We filed for unemployment, which is a better deal anywas.

Your whole family is better off that she stays home and raises your twins...or if you did and she went to work.

Raising kids is the toughest job on Earth, period. American society has a bizarre and dysfunctional view of child rearing...don't let it make you or your wife feel "less than".

My wife worked for a few months after our first was born and hated it. She's been working hard raising our now 3 boys ever since.

Yes, I was actually relieved when they hired somebody else in her place, and I didn't raise a stink about it. It's so much work as they're still eating around the clock. She's be too tired to go to work anywas.

Margaret is now on a fussy/gassy baby formula, which is $16.66 per pound. We're paying probably $60 more a month now since we had to switch to it from the regular stuff (I think it totals around $140-$150/month for us). I can't imagine what it would be like with twins!!

Which diapers do you use? I have a bunch of coupons I haven't been using and I could send some up your way if you're interested.

If I could afford to stay home, I surely would. Handing over half of my paycheck to daycare just plain sucks. But we need that other half, so for now, I have to stick with it...

Good luck to you and your wife!! It's a LOT of work, but so much fun at the same time. :D

Hope you didn't take my comments as a criticism...they weren't meant that way. Everyone does what they have to do to make ends meet.

While we can "afford" to allow my wife to work at home raising our sons, we have also sacrificed a few luxuries to make that happen. Well worth it because nothing is more important to me than my family.

Not offended at all! Jealous, maybe... ;) I do believe that is the best way if you can do it. We can't right now, so I have to be ok with that. I did spend the last 3 weeks of my maternity leave trying to find a way not to go back, though... Just isn't possible right now. Good for you and your wife that you can make it work!!

Believe me, it's alot of work just to make it work! Sometimes I think it would be easier for us if she did return to the workforce, but then I see my boys thriving because mom is at home and I realize I'm wrong.

You got that right. My wife also stays home with our son, and we just make ends meet. We make do, and sometimes do without. The heat and lights are on, there's food in the fridge, and we can afford one car. Thankfully work provides me with a truck, so she always has a vehicle. But we live in a s##thole town where the school system sucks and the teen pregnancy rate is out of sight. BTW, these pregnant teens are probably better off financially each week than I am.

The American Dream my a$$!
