Seconded on the Thuderbolt in N. Adams Mass. Prolly more like 4-5 hours, but it's a cool tour with a shelter up top. Skin bellow's pipe trail and ski thunderbolt. A lot of history and a well mantained BC trail. Great beginner BC. The connecticut nelsap stuff would be fun, and with a descent dump, I bet alot of the hiking trails in and around the Delaware Watergap would go. Sunset lake trail?
I will deffinately hit up Thunderbolt. I have a place at Mt. Snow so while there I can drive to N. Adams in under an hour.
Other suggestions?
there is no backcountry in the east
you have to go to utah for that
Last weekend I hiked an mountain and skid powder that rivaled some of my best days ever skiing out west.
Thus, there is indeed backcountry skiing in the est.
Now let's not get carried away.
Dude, out west.....
Fix it for ya!Have you ever skied off a ridge, 1500 feet wide, moderately steep, with about 3 foot of powder, and NOT A SINGLE TRACK ON IT, out west?

Check out the Danby area. VT Taconics have some big vert with sustained pitch. Different character then the greens....they are on my list. Let me know what you find.
