I'd much rather ski in the trees/glades, moderately steep, with about 3 feet of powder, and NOT A SINGLE TRACK ON IT, in VT...

i love tech vt tree skiing i also like open bowls but i do get bored with openes of the west sometimes othertimes i dont. the northern greens always keep me interested.

No doubt...Danby (Dorset) Mountain is huge and steep. Been asking around about that one. My bro lives in E. Dorset and he's been useless up to this point.

i ahve been eyeing that in google earth for some time.

Dorset does look large, but on the satellites I don't see any trail.... Is there one?

ok so here is the to second eval of dorset. the left route would be the quickest but would be steeper i would personally go with the left you can play with the time of day to see how the sun progresses across the mountain.

I see the fall-lines, but what about trees!

Even at Mt. Snow, a pretty well maintained mountain, if you go off trail in the woods it is almost impossible to ski as there is too much brush and the trees are too tight!

I feel like a cut hiking/skiing trail is necessary to insure skiability.

The NELSAP area at Hogback is an option for you also.

Have a place at Mt. Snow that is about 20 mins from Hogback. It is a cool area. Unfortunately it is a reverse area, so you drive to the top, then ski down. At the top the lodge is still operational as a restaurant.

Thus I feel like they would not be happy with me skiing...

well you have to look at the drainages. part of BC skiing in the east is bushwackin. while what you did haystack was fun it isnt really BC. there is a exploring element to EC BC. get youself a few hikeing maps. like i said it was a 2 second eval. i will say this there are a bunch of doable lines.

Dorset is criss-crossed with woods roads, making for easy access, and the woods from what I have seen are fairly open. I've hiked up from the state park, but never skiied it. It's on my list of "to-do" bc tours when there's good snow cover - conditions can be dramatically different than the Green Mtns just to the east..

Hey JD, think you can get some info on it from your buddy and PM it to me?

I think you can look at a topo and spend hours bushwacking around in spruce gnar to find the goods, like we all do. It's the best part really.

I've always parked near the state park entrance and hiked the woods roads or bushwacked from there; the popular hikers trail goes up from a trailhead west of Manchester, but I've never used it. Never found access to be an issue, whether its private or not; I suspect some of the mountain must be owned by the marble companies.

MrZ123 part of the fun of real BC sking is pouring over topos, google earth, photos and hiking maps. route finding is 50 percent of the adventure. there have been days where i got maybe two runs because i was thwackin around in the woods. hell i take lift assisted runs at stowe that take me 2 hours because i just explore.

Understand. I don't want to get arrested though...
