So while working today one of my buddies called me and said Bellayre had 6" and it was coming down hard. I said jokingly that we should go hike it.......
We got out of work at 6 and were on the road at 6:30. My friends Adam, Tim, and I.
Driving up 28 was scary. pouring and NO SNOW. 10 miles from Bellayre we had snow. At the access road from 28 there was 4-5 inches. As we climbed up the road it got deeper fast. Parked in the mid-mountain lodge and through on our packs. I had brought my K2 Axis because they are the crappiest skis i own.
In the lot there was 12-15 inches. We left the car at 10 mins. to 9 with our head mounted flashlights leading the way. We started hiking up Wanatuska? We hiked for about 30-45 mins. and made it half way up the trail. By now there was 20-24" of somewhat heavy snow. Here we decided we had hiked long enough.
The ride down was AWESOME! I have never skied that much snow, and it was 100% untracked. My skis had no float to them and I wish I had brought my Scott Missions. The amount of snow that my legs were plowing up was incredible. It was higher than my waist. Made many wide sweeping turns down the trail. At 1 point I built enough speed to have the fronts of my skis pop up, just as I went over a drop. i thought I was going to rag doll, but stayed up(unlike my 2 friends who went down))
We hung out on the mid-mountain deck for a while taking it all in before hitting the road.
My camera had dead batteries, but one of my friends took lots of pics. I will add them tomorrow after he puts them online. However i do have some camera-phone pics.
This is the deck at mid-mountain. I am in a big snow drift on the deck.
We also strung up the Jolly Roger before leaving!
There is way more pics that I will post up tomorrow.
