Conditions: Hard pack, a little packed powder
I was too tired after yesterday's day 1 of my season to post this last night so it's a day late. I got to Belleayre at about 10:15 and was on the snow about 10:25. Met RootDKJ , who had already been skiing for a little while, and we lapped Onteora from the mid-station all day, with a short lunch break.
Lower Onteora was the only trail open (not including the bunny hill) so you had to unload Lift 7 at the mid-station. It looked like they could have opened upper Onteora but maybe they are trying to preserve it or something.
The condition were mostly hard pack with a few areas of packed powder here and there.and a few death cookies. It never really softened up during the course of the day. The trail base seemed very good and I never noticed any weeds sticking up through the snow and there were no bare spots on the open trail. One of the workers told me that there were 600 people crammed onto the WROD on Saturday. Glad I can ski weekdays.
We lapped lower Onteora non-stop except for the lunch break. I called it a day about 2:25 because I wanted to beat the rush hour home but I had a few more "one more run" episodes before I finally left. It was a beautiful bluebird day which probably reached a high of 40 degrees. It was a great way to start the season but unfortunatly it made me itch for more.
