Season started saturday for us. Was better than expected after all that rain.

You couldn't get from the hawk to the express though. Had to do some bushwacking...

Fun couple of hours outside.

X-mas and the day after was really good. Ski on both days....were were the crowds? Crazy....

X-mas, dot nebel under the guns was excellent. Thursday, Yahoo was incredibly soft and edge able. Bluebird on thursday as well.

Great time.

Next week looks like one of the worst forecasts you can imagine. Rain > single digit temps.

Is Upper Cathedral Brook (black diamond portion taken off the map a year or two ago) still skiable and will you get in trouble if ski patrol sees you ?

This is a question I've asked the hill with no clear answer. There also was a neat little lean to up there. Plus the cathedral glen glades out past it. It all did require a mild hike so maybe that's why.

Cathedral Brook was skiiable April last year with several downed trees to clamber around on the approach, numerous tracks. The upper section was perfectly skiiable although did have some brush and brambles in spots. Unless someone took it upon themselves to clear it it is probably slightly worse off since then. I doubt ski patrol will follow you. I dont recall any signage actually marking it off limits. The approach if I am remembering right is a public hiking trail and cross country ski trail so the trees might have been cleared.

I still remember back when they ran an old cat to the top of Cathedral Brook (The Beast of Belleayre). It was a few dollars for a ride.

Wow - tree into the Bell Express....awful news. Hopefully the cable isn't damaged.

Smart move closing that day for wind.

Wasn’t that a patroller and that lift wasn’t open to the public yet?

It was a ski patroller, I think the resort was open though as I recall people had to be evac'd from the line. There are still tons of gigantic pine trees on either side of that lift.

Not just a guy, but a patroller! In the middle of a BIG storm cycle. Tree fell, hit the haul rope, patroller was on a section of the lift between towers.. lift apparently "bounced" a bunch, not sure if the patroller had the safety bar down or not, he was thrown out of the chair and apparently went head first into the feet of soft snow near the base of the valley that lift crosses, that doesn't have any trails below it, and couldn't be rescued by his fellow patrollers in time...
