This is the most talked about issue locally in Hunter... I wonder what the state will conceed to in order to level the playing field..

"That decision has further irritated private owners of area ski resorts, who have increasingly voiced complaints about the state's unfair advantages in the skiing business. Those issues include state-run facilities being exempt from paying taxes.

"We're going to look at Plan B: What can the state now do for the private sector to help counterbalance this advantage that the Belleayre ski area and other state-owned facilities have?" said Scott Brandi, president of Ski Areas of New York, a trade association for both private and publicly run ski resorts.

Brandi noted that the Department of Environmental Conservation operates Belleayre, and also has regulatory authority over other privately owned ski resorts in the area.

"They have to answer to them while, on the other hand, compete against them," Brandi said"

Well if i were a person who was going to go to bellearye for an extended vacation"4 plus days" i personally would hit the next closest ski area"20-30 min away" to check it out.Its not like there are 100 trails available at Belleayre. And if the other 2 areas were smart they would pick up on this and try and work together instead of fighting with each other.Bellearye is not Hunter or Windham.Maybe a 3 area ticket with Bellearye getting short end of stick on cost"since DEC gives away thousands of them any way"

Hunter and Windham had some sort of pass/ticket deal last year.

There was also Ski the Catskills Card that was good at Belleayre Holiday, mount Peter, and Plattekill. In previous years Hunter and Windham were included on the Ski the Catskills card. I believe the price was only slightly higher when Windham and Hunter were on the card. The card encourages skiers and riders to try all the resorts on the card.
