I Just returned from a day at Belleayre mtn and the conditions were as good as to be expected following friday's rain to snow event followed by some serious cold weather for a change. I based my decision to go to Belleayre on their snow report for friday night indicating 4" of new snow after the change over from rain.

Driving up on route 28 to the ski area, I started to wonder if they really did get any new snow at all as all that was at the side of the road until around Shandaken was old melted snow with a nasty looking ice glaze on it. Ye of little faith was pleased to see 2-4" of snow on the ground by the time we reached the access road.

We arrived at 8:15 and we were skiing by 8:30 and at that hour there were NO crowds at all. My first run was down Wanatuska which was groomed packed powder with ice cookies near the bottom. I boarded the Yahoo triple chair and skied Onteora which had bullet proof moguls with sheet ice in between them. The only hope that I see for this trail is for the bumps to be cut down by a snowcat to start over again.

The best snow on the mountain was on the Dot Nebel trail with perfect groomed packed powder and no ice. I skied this trail 3 times before a #$%^& race course was set up on the trail (this was really anoying) Seneca had good groomed snow as did Roaring Brook.

I skied with my son in the afternoon down Roaring Brook and he skied all the way down to the Discovery Lodge without falling, making me a happy father :D :D

Overall conditions were fair and alot of snowmaking was occuring on Winnisook, Peekamoose and Dakota, so these trails should open soon. Crowds were reasonable until about 11:30 when it became very buzy and the
trails became skied off.
