It really hasn't been bad in the last few years... I can't speak to Windham but Hunter hasn't been the Hunter of the 70's and 80's for a while.. From what I'm hearing here - Belleayre has been more crowded then Hunter this year... We're waiting 10 minutes on the A quad and the Superchief has a 20 minute line...

And the town is starting to feel it as businesses close and do not reopen....
Remember this decision could affect local businesses trying to scrape out an existence in an already hurting economy...

Vote for Mike Tancredi this Tuesday - Hunter Village Mayor!!!!
He's got some good ideas!

So do you want 20 minute lift lines???

8 years ago I chose Windham over Hunter because it was suppose to be a family area and safer for the kids.
IMNSHO Windham has morphed into a crazy place and the mountain does virtually nothing to deter reckless skiers and riders. It was so dangerous on the hill at night that some of their instructors would only teach beginners in "the pit".
The last two years I have enjoyed a much safer experience teaching at Jiminy and haven't been hit once.

DMC has really been pushing this image of Belleayre as being the "New Hunter" when it comes to lift lines. (Maybe from a couple of my posts.) But take them as a whole: You can read my blog and my trip reports for 21 days of skiing at Belleayre this winter so far, all weekends and holidays, and see that there were only about two outrageously long lift line days. They were around President's Day, especially when Superchief kept breaking down. I waited in ZERO lift lines today.

I figure DMC is trying to get more people to ski at Hunter, and less at Belleayre. Which is fine with me.

:daffy:

Not really.

Just saying that the situation here may be similar to the situation over there as far as crowds etc.... What I hear from you guys parallels what happens at Hunter. We've had some crowded weekends and some chair issues and today I skied on and off the quad..

Highmount is adjacent to Belleayre, to the right of it as viewed from the bottom. It is STEEP! When there is enough snow, as there was this year, they build jumps on it and hike up. The jumping record is something like 168'.(!) I agree that we could use a few more ski areas, and Bearpen Mountain is now being considered for development. Check out "The Bearpen Story" on the Net.

Thanks For The Highmount Tips!!!

I was going to email only a select few my credit card #'s but heck, I'll just post it on a later thread.
C'mon guys, it's bad enough when I got 4 kids who don't even know how to turn a board, right behind me, scraping HM clean, then they razz me and a bud because we don't have our mom there to pick us up and give us a ride back to T hawk to do it again.
Not only is it lame to give step by step directions to a place like that, it's irresponsible, no one knows the skill level of everyone who reads this, one bad move, you got a busted intermediate rider / skiier on an un-swept trail, that amounts to a serious problem.
How about just a tiny bit of self restraint so we can preserve a great stash that's not going to be around much longer.

If some one reads this to find this that should not be there and gets hurt, I still don't feel bad. They should know that they shouldnt be there. When I go poaching somewhere I know that I am entirely on my own and responsible for my actions......
