Conditions: Yikes!
This was my first time out this season. We arrived at the mountain at 4:00 P.M. with the school group from Amherst Mass. Only 3 trails were open: Big Chief, the bottom half of Competition and Exhibition. The "snow" was crunchy to say the least, chucks of granular stuff which looked like it had been chopped up with a pick-axe. The snow guns were running full blast so you went from the ultra fast icey stuff through new powder from the guns which was so sticky it stopped you dead. The most dangerous part was that all traffic was on 2 trails which made it extremely crowded, with beginners falling all over the place and racers weaving in and out at 90 mph.
We're scheduled for next Thursday, I hope we get some snow!
