Sorry if this thread has been started before, did a quick search and couldn't come across anything.....

Anyway, what's been your best day on skis/board? Where was it? What were the conditions? What made it so sick? I def wanna see some pictures if you gottem too.....I need a little terrible tuesday stoke.

Mine was without question at Winter Park/MJ....18" overnight, woke up to bluebird skies......ripping up the woods in Vasquez Cirque in deep pow, catching facials...then it starts storming hard right before lunch....got another 6-8" between then and when the lifts stopped spinning, and I love storm skiing......just all around sick day. I may have some pics from that morning... I'll take a look and if I do I'll post em up

So whattya got?

I have had a number of great memories over the years but my favorite probably goes to a day in Grand Targhee 2 years ago. It was a solo day, and that might have something to do with it.

It was on superbowl sunday and the mountain was empty, no lines, very few people. It had snowed a bunch the night before but the day was bluebird with some usual Targhee fog up top. It was GS style powder turns all day long. Only had to deal with tracked out powder on the runouts back to the lifts. Had the altimeter on and managed to log 30,000 vertical feet that day.

Any day with 30,000 feet of fresh powder and zero crowds on a bluebird day in the tetons is a good day for me.

Found 2 pics....they aren't exactly representative of the day however, as I snapped 'em more towards mid-morning and the top of the cirque at least had gotten a little skiied out.... nonetheless, here they are....

I have so many but here's one of my best days...

Here is a copy and paste from a great powder day I had at Jackson Hole 2 seasons ago..

Hi All,

I just got back from my 7th and final ski day of my Jackson trip. Wow what a day. I arrived on the bus at 8:30AM, the lines for the Tram and gondola were super long due to all the new snow....check out...http://www.jacksonhole.com/snowreport.asp to see what it was like. I was the 5th person in the singles line for the Teewinot quad and on the flat section from there to Apres Vous I skated and tucked past at least 15 people... About a foot of untracked right under the Apres Vous quad..1800 vert of bliss. Then I skied Saratoga bowl which was boot top to knee deep cold smoke with no nasties. I rode the lift with maybe the biggest asshole ever. I said,"I want to rest my feet" I started to put the bar down and he was like,"Goddamit you almost hit me in the head"...I said sorry and he said,"What do you need the bar for anyways and I said,"I wanted to rest my feet" he said why and I said,"Because it was there" I should have pushed him off.. . Then I went to the gondola which had about a 10 minute wait. Because of all the new snow, the locals were out in full force...yesterday and the day before not many locals were out. I skied deep powder in Woolsley woods to the Casper area and then untracked down Jackson face. Even at the lower elevations, there was alot of untracked powder. I was on my S12s again because I didn't want to give up a good place in line to rent Phats. They were great in the powder. Then I skiwed two runs off the Sweetwater triple between beaver tooth and Jackson face...lots of powder. Then an early lunch in the Casper lodge. After lunch I skied down to the gondola where a band was playing by the liftline. They were playing Elvis Costello songs,"Watching the Detective". Another powder burst in Symetry woods to the Thunder quad. Then I skied scraps in Laramie bowl to the Sublette quad. I did a run in Cheyanne bowl to Bernies Bowl to Split rock, then another ride up Sublette to the hobacks. Wow the Hobacks were the best I've seen them. Lots of untracked in south Hoback, especially in the few patches of trees. I was beat at this time and it was only 1:30PM. I then did an final long run in the Saratoga bowl and then quit. My legs were burning even on the flats. As I write this I still have 10 more minutes left on my lift ticket. I ended the day with a few beers and a slice of pizza at the Many Moose. What a great trip. Guys from Chicago who were only in for the weekend wondered if I got bored skiing 7 days at Jackson and Targhee in a row.... I don't even get bored at Booter...skiing is too fun. Well tomorrow I fly back to PA and then back to work Tuesday to make money for future ski trips. Today I skied 14 runs for 21,910 vertical feet. I look forward to skiing with a bunch of PASRs when I get back...it should be mad steezy yo...

went heli skiing in BC this past march. The operation was shut down for the ten previous days because of snow.

The day i was signed up for the sun came out with no cloud in the ski and no wind. Dumb Luck

We were riding up to ridges which were only open on days like we got. The chopper was landing on ledges that just freaked me out. He would jump it up and down to sink in up to the belly.

2000 foot vert runs down powder as deep as you could force your skiis down. Face shots all day and I never skied over another track.

Did poach the slides this year and got face shot down slide three. That was an epic day. Never had that experience at WF before.

Best day? Hmmmm....

Best snow day was at Beaver Creek on a Tuesday morning in early March 1994. Elk glade off the side of Grouse mountain had just opened that year (I think anyway, I definitely went through patrolled gates) and overnight snowfall amounted to 23". It was cold, windless and sunny. I was alone. All morning. No other tracks in the area. None other than mine.

When the snow is like that and it's all yours, it doesn't matter where you are. Alternating open and tight tree areas are good choices though.

Here's a report from Friday April 6th 2007 at Stowe..I've got to add some East coast Powder stoke..not my best day but probably in my all time top 50..

Hey All,

I'm back from another steezy ski day at Stowe. When I woke up this morning there was about an inch of snow on my car. The snow was like pixie-dust..if a midget sneezed it would have cleared the snow off my car. I putzed around, got a bagel sandwich, and watched Saved by the Bell the college years. The ski-report said a storm total of 17-23 inches as of 6:00AM...wow. At 8:00AM it was 22 degrees at the base and in the low teens at the top. My first run was the powder on the side of Ridgeview then breaking trail on the traverse past Sunrise..wow the new overnight snow..8+ inches was so light and effortless to ski..not quite cold smoke powder but I bet in the 7-8% range..the snow that was falling was tiny little 6 sided crystals. I didn't cross one track that whole run all the way down to crossover. I then poached Goat and ducked into the woods to the skiers left which was beautiful..maybe 2-3 tracks..A few spots that didn't get tracked out yesterday were over the knee in depth. Then Bypass which was in great condition..to the woods below them which were pretty much untracked right down to Cliff trail..then across Nosedive to the woods on the skiers right..then more powder on the last section of lowe National. Then up the Gondola which had opened for the day a few minutes before. Staggered opening are the bomb..it preserves the powder an extra hour. Chin Clip was closed so I ducked that rope and only felt 2 bumps below the snow on the first section..then I was woo-ed by an untracked Switchback..definitely a run where I didn't see my skis much. I took the Lt11s out today because they were jealous of all the powder the Elans got yesterday..plus they're a little more nimble in tight spots and bumps. Then I traversed above Cliff Trail into the Kitchen sink for some uber deep Poe..It was halfway up my poles which are 50 inches...wow..Then back down to the quad where I saw a familiar face..

At around 10:00AM I ran into Jumping Jimmy who is a member on the Ski-Vermont discussion list. He skis on fat tele skis and his friend Scott was along. I skied with him last year and he tears it up. We skied a woods run I had never skied before which he called "Rogers Woods" because his friend Roger pruned them out..There definitely weren't any tracks in there despite it being pretty close to a trail. Jumping Jimmy made so many turns...like 20 turns in a 50 yard span..darn tele-heads..then they went to Skin somewhere in the backcountry so I split up from them. After that I poached Lookout from the top and I was probably the 10th person down it so it was pretty tracked up so I ducked into the woods between Lookout and Starr...wow da da da deep..Then back up the quad and to the woods past Sunrise that I did on run number 1..I was able to find untracked by traversing a little farther than I had before..then I skied the woods down to the chapel..then crossover to the Midway lodge for an early lunch. I had Clam Chowder and a gatorade..$9.25..but I took like 5 packs of crackers.

Then I took the gondola up and hit up the Kitchen Sink again and still found some untracked..then down to the Quad..for a different route in the woods off sunrise..Two shredders followed by tracks and got pissed at me for stopping...they were like,"On a traverse..you can't stop"...so I let them ahead and they both got owned at this little ledge section..but 10 yards to the right was smooth untracked so I ended up passing them..then back to the Gondola. By now Chin Clip had opened and was totally tracked out..I went skiers right on the traverse out to the Bench. Alot of people had already been out that way but I was able to find alot of uncut powder about 2/3 of the way off the traverse..(maybe 1/2 a mile from Chin-clip)..With traverses into tree areas..I find that alot of people only traverse a little bit..some a little more..and the rest to the very end so 2/3 of the way usually yields the most powder..I got about 7-800 vert of nice fall-line powder..then I traversed back to Chin-Clip..I could have skied another 500 vert or so down to the notch road but that would have meant a short hike out..The traverse back to Chin-Clip was a trip..I got going really fast in somebody elses track..got tons of branches in my face...Jib a log..and finally got caught in a bush..Then up the Gondola again for my last run...run #12 of the day. I traversed above Cliff trail but went farther over than before..where there was still lots of fresh..then weaved my way slowly down to the Nosedive/Cliff Trail intersection..Then across to Goat..then some untracked in the woods between Lower Goat and Lower National..then over to Liftline and down to the parking lot. I didn't carry my camara with me due to wet conditions but I took some shots from the parking lot. When I left it was 26 degrees and here in town it's 29 degrees and snowing lightly. It looks like more snow showers tonight...I quit at 1:33PM..Driving back to my hotel..I shook my head in disbelief..wow...12 runs and 25,100 vert..5 on the Gondy..7 on the Forerunner quad. Tomorrow they re-open the Big Spruce chair for the first time in a week or two so I might have to hit that for some untracked..After skiing tomorrow I'm headed back to the A...Holla

Not sure if this was my best day as far as conditions go, but everything else made it a top 3 day, at least:

  • MRG on an April powder day
  • Skiing with my best friend
  • Skiing with three other AZers + AZer friend
  • Popped my Fall Line and Paradise cherries
  • One of the last days for the original Single chair

I'd also have to say Grand Targee. We took a day off from Jackson Hole and skiied there on a Wednesday after 10" the night before. It was empty and every run was fresh powder. I had a break-thru day in the bumps and trees on The Good and The Bad and The Ugly!:spin:

Alot of people don't drop in there because you end up in a big flatish spot with lots of little stream tribs. Snowboarders are screwed once they get down in there. Prolly the best reason to ski over snowboarding if you like poking around away from a ski area.

So many great runs last year....but one sticks in my mind.
Skinned up at night after work in a storm and slept up top in a nondisclosed location. It was the second week of April and shit was really filled in allready. Got up after drinking alot of beer, made coffee, took a great dump then headed out. Lapped a short pitch high up on the Mtn. a few times and was really liking the snow. Dense pow that had alot of power. Great consistant cover meant you could really let it rip. Skinned up to the chin and skiied profanity to Taft lodge, one of the best ever runs down thru and noticed how much snow had been deposited by the overnight storm, but it was opposite of how stuff ussually blows in. The drift at the bottom of the rippie cliff was 10 feet deeper then the day before, up to the crack. so after a warm up and a toke, we skinned out to another undiclosed location. A line I had found on a nasty day 2 years ago just skinning around. It's in a great spot because boot packers can't get there without what would be a few hundred yards of spruce trap hell. It starts with a few tight turns, then a 15ish foot plop out into a VERY open area of the Mtn that then feeds into several gullies. The day I found this line the LZ was completely scoured and I was forced to downclimb thru some crappy soft woods. But I was hopeing that with the winds coming from the other direction then they ussally do, the landing would be filled in. There is a nice little spruce tree in the landing that I knew was about 4 feet tall as of 2 weeks prior. We dropped in, and as I came around the blind lead in with a big pow smear to check some speed, I saw the tree was gone except of a few inches of the very top. I plopped of and skiied out if it down the slide path, then peeled left at the dog leg. I yelled up that it was G2G and watched as my bro booted it. He went big and landed in an explosion of pow, then came rocketing out of the cloud on his tail, caked in snow, grinning ear to ear. We shredded down thru the fields of snow, then the soft woods close in again and we wrapped around a buttress of rock and into the gully. 10 feet wide. 30-40 degrees. 300-400 vert. I let my buddy go first. He had never been out there and I could tell he REALLY wanted it. He disappeared around the first bend and his hoots echoed off the tall cliffs all around us. I gave him about 30 seconds then dropped in. 2 quick turns to check snow conditions and they were creamy good. I pointed it around the first bend. Slashing down thru at great velocity, around the final right hander in a DEEP tele I felt like I was getting barreled at pipeline. My bro had pulled out on the right and I flew by into the hardwood glades. Plummetting down thru the maple and birch linking wide turns, my buddy came into view in my left perriferal and we BOMBED out to the road. Down on the notch road we were alone. The sky was a mother-of-pearl, but down in the valley the sun was breaking thru and backlighting the last few flakes that fell in slow motion as if they would never reach the ground. My beard caked with the remants of deep turns, masked a satisfied smile and we burned another one down in celebration.
"I never get to ride ANYTHING like that."said undisclosed hommie.
Definitly one of my best runs.
Can't wait for skiing.

Best Day....

My brother Jake had just gotten out of Joliet and we loaded up the Bluesmobile with his skis and my board and headed for Kmart. Unfortunately the day ended just like the movie did....

Technically, it was only a run. Despite taking another lap from profanity via the long trail, I only skiied about 6 hours, so I can't count is as a ski "day". Still a great run though.

Best day

I really enjoyed watching Greg's video and dug out one from last February. Snow conditions weren't the best I've experienced but this sixty-something skier/boarder had one heck of a lot of fun. The footage was shot at Davos. Europe had experienced a dismal winter but we got lucky with a couple of nice dumps during our trip there.
