squaw/tahoe can be hit or miss too...the year I lived there we had no real snow (skiing manmade on Red Dog all Dec and most of Jan) up until Feb 28...then we got a 7' dump followed by another 21' of snow at the mtn in March...needless to say March was insane. When Tahoe misses, it seems to miss big, but when it hits, it hits BIG. I'd rank Whistler/blackcomb ahead of Squaw...but I had 4.5' of snow the first time I was there...since then I've skied there in the rain too...sometimes our perception is colored by the conditions we experienced...but the thread was "assume good conditions" so I'd put Whistler ahead of Squaw...more terrain, more vert, and a sweet ass village with great nightlife.

Good points. In Whistler it can take you all day to get from blackcomb over to the goods at whistler. I skied mostly Blackcomb cause I just did not want to take the trip over. I could find the same stuff where i was for the most part. Squaw however I could get to any part of the hill wtihin 20 minutes. Most in 10. I really appreciated that quality.. I went out last year so snow was pretty good. I went to whistler 2 years ago. They had a very good year when I was there.

You know what. The truth be known its like argueing about a super model. I want the brunette. I want the blond. I am lucky to experience both.

Interior BC is where it's at for this guy.The Monashees consistantly average 700+ inches year after year. You must do some heli or in my case for the last 7 years, catski this area before you leave this world.

Sikskier - where do you cat ski at? What are your recomendations? The only time I went out to interior BC we indended on doing 3 days at Valhalla Powdercats but it *ained all the way to the peaks ("It's never done that before"). What a disaster that trip turned out to be! Now none of my 'friends' are willing to go back out there.

It's really not that bad to flip mountains at Whistler. I've skied down to the base for sushi lunch and skied the other mountain the rest of the day. The Whistler gondola is a very fast lift and there's never any line at 12:30.

Squaw is much smaller than Whistler. It's not a big vertical place so of course it's easy to get from one part to another. At Whistler, you have to ski 5K to get to the bottom. I agree about your supermodel comment. They are both very good mountains.

I haven't been paying much attention. What's the ride time supposed to be on the new Peak to Peak lift connecting Whistler and Blackcomb?

For some reason I remember 12 minutes...similar to the Slidebrook at Sugarbush..I haven't skied Whistler since 1999. I got myself into one hairy situation at Whistler where I was cliffed out..and ended up having somebody scope out the landing from below..and luckily no real carnage..

Peak to Peak

What's the ride time supposed to be on the new Peak to Peak lift connecting Whistler and Blackcomb?

Approximately 11 Minutes

I also skied a day at W/B (in 1990) spending the morning at Blackcomb and moving over to Whistler for the afternoon after buffalo wings and beer in the village . I think I also switched from skis to snowboard.

I'm going back in February 2009. I'll have to see how my perception of their expert terrain has changed in 19 years. I remember skiing the Saudan Couloir (Couloir Extreme) in '90 using mostly kick turns and slide slips. I wasn't really ready for it and I remember being close to freaked out but I made it without falling. I'm also excited to ride the new gondola.
