I'm getting a head start on my winter 09 plans, and I was just wondering what you guys though was the overall best place to do night skiing in the east. (Distance is not an issue, I'm in NYC and would be willing to drive up to 10 hours, possibly into CA) All opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Mt St Anne was the best I ever have seen. Great terrain and the view of the St Lawrence River.

I kind of like SR for night skiing. Well really just cause its pretty easy for me. Friday nights are a blast. A great way to start the weekend.

In the time it would take to drive (up to) 10 hours you could have some great day time skiing at White Face

I'll also throw my vote in for Blue Mountain. I went night skiing at Mountain Creek last season and was surprised at all the areas where there's no light. Blue has much better trail coverage.

Night skiing is something you do when you steal a 1/2 day from work or if you got the stamina, extend your daytime skiing.

Soooo....... the answer is anywhere LOCAL to you

I've been pretty happy with the night skiing at Wachusett and Pats Peak. Wachusett is the better of the two for cranking out runs and Pats Peak has the more interesting trails...just depends on what you want to do.

I'm sure that there are better places but the drive would be too far to justify going.

I've been sking nights at Jiminy Peak for a lot of years. I think the most important thing for a good night of skiing is if and how well they groom for it. Over the years I have seen significant improvements in the night conditions. I really think they have it dialed quite well.

I'm told that it is "only" 3 hours from NYC.

If you are concidering making thjis a regular thing there are some night adult programs you might be interested in, check the web site.

Aside from Blue the true, I have gone night skiing at Big Boulder, Camelback, Doe Mountain(now Bear Creek) and Bolton Valley VT...Blue has superior lighting, some oldtimers swear off night skiing due to poor lighting and cold temperatures which are weak excuses..natural light is only good a fraction of the time..but with lights..despite an occasional shadow..it's still really consistant at Blue..

I saw your pictures from Mountain Creek and it looked like pretty sporadic lighting..I like how Blue has 100% of their terrain lit for night skiing. I also like how they regroom several popular runs around 4PM for fresh cord..plus if you stay late enough..the crowd thins and you have the runs to yourself. People also often complain about the school group kids but the majority of them stay in the terrain park or hangout in the lodge eating fries leaving the main runs pretty empty. Plus there's nothing quite like seeing an 8th grade kid..smoking their first marlboro light in the liftline...another future customer of mine...

Seven Springs, PA has great lighting even though the North Face is only half covered. Now that they have a HSQ on that side of the mountain maybe they will expand the lighting. This combined with a a GREAT snowmaking system makes for good skiing on a 750' vertical area.

How was Bolton? I believe their trail count is significantly higher than Blue's so...

Blue definitely has more night skiing terrain than Bolton. I went night skiing at Bolton back in 2000 and it was only on a few runs on their main mountain but I poached Cobrass..Bolton is one of the flatter ski areas in Vermont so great for beginners/low intermediates..

Seven Springs indeed does have great night skiing. Admittedly though, the few times I went I didn't spend all that much time on the hill. Apres Ski at Seven Springs might be the best in the east. Place knows how to party.

I second Jiminy, at least if you're willing to ski nothing but groomers all night. The terrain's a little boring by day-time standards, but its pretty fun by night-skiing standards. The base area's pretty nice as well, if your any of your companions are less enthusiastic about night-skiing. 2:45 from the UWS.

If you don't mind slow lifts, Shawnee Peak should be at the top of your list. No crowds, over 1300 vert at night, 20 +/- trails, decent snow surfaces, and it's really warm at night! Okay, the last one was a lie...
