From Long Island.

Past few years we've been leaving at 330PM on Friday afternoon when my wife gets off work. Head up 95 to 91 to 89....not a bad ride, but usually get caught in the 95 traffic thru Southern CT....could shoot up the Merrit, but that gets heavy .....would it be better to head up the ThurWay up to Burlington or is there another way? 684 to 84 to Hartford then pick up 91 North??

Thanks...

684-84-91-89, exit 10, 100N thru Stowe, Left on Stagecoach. Straight thru 4 way stop. Left at T. Left at Y in Hyde park. Right at 3 way. Left on 15 into Jeff., left on 108.

Timing is the issue, though. 84 through W. Hartford to 91 in Hartford can be a real clusterf$$# from 4pm - 6:30. If you can get through before or after, shouldn't be too much trouble.

They are also redoing 84 in Waterbury again and tend to close lanes often which really backs up traffic.

if there's no traffic we can be in H'ford in 2 hrs.....we stop around there anyway for a bite, change the little ones into their PJ's and then we keep heading north ....... figuring stopping around WestFarms Mall area to grab some dinner..

Good idea. Makes the entire ride a little more tolerable. Coming-up from CT, our usual sanity check is around Greenfield, MA.

yea, after 2-2.5 hrs the kids are ready to get out of the seats and get some chow...we've been stopping at the 'On the Boarder' in Rocky Hill for an hour or so...just want to avoid the 95 thur Greenwich-New Haven as its always a mess.....thats why i'm half thinking of the NY Thruway as well....

my folks live 5 min off 91/Merritt Pkwy, so we might shoot up the Merritt, pop in, have a quick dinner, change the kids and keep heading North on 91...or to bypass CT traffic, might hit the cross westchester from either 95 or the Hutch and take the NYS Thruway up to Burlington and hit Smuggs from that angle...
