north conway is a great location for a skier/non-skier pair. north conway has arguably the most shopping and non-skier options in a ski town. nearby ski areas include attitsh, cranmore, black mountain, wildcat, and bretton woods. none of which have a gondola. across the kanc is loon which specializes in slopeside with a gondola, not as much shopping in loon, but the wife can drive over the kanc (not advisable in bad weather) to get to north conway. killington has a gondola and some shopping and bars on the strip. it wouldn't keep me entertained for three days though, your milage may vary. stratton may be your preference if money is no object and you folks want some pampering with a slopeside gondola option.

wow, these are all areas i don't like  with exception of wildcat and black at least, heh!

Best Slopside Village in the East is Tremblant. Skiing is ok too. Most women love the village, I know my wife and daughter did. My wife isn't much of a skier, but she would go back there in a heartbeat.

Smuggs has a nice village too and IMO without a doubt the best skiing of any resort that offers a slopeside village.

Stratton has one too that some people like.

Jiminy Peak for a smaller mountain has a nice little village slopeside.

Oil, to the best of my knowledge none of the areas you listed has a slopeside village. Now go ahead and spin your rational for the resorts you listed for me.

if you just read his post without reading his topic headline, it makes more sense  smuggs certainly doesn't have much for restaurants, bars, stores, or a gondola, so i dont' know where you get off making that recommendations ;) ;) ;) so spin your own rational there  i included stratton, btw ;)

Smuggs doesn't have a great one but it does have one:

The village offers a pizzeria, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream cafeteria and two excellent restaurants, namely the cosy Hearth and Candle and Riga Bello's Italian eatery. There are also cafes serving snacks on the mountains plus several good restaurants within a 10-mile radius.

Fun Zone Family Recreation Centre, outdoor and indoor pools, hot tubs, exercise room, game room, floodlit outdoor ice-skating rink, dogsledding, snowmobiling.

FREE on-demand shuttle bus to lifts and amenities. Babysitting (payable locally). Treasures childcare centre. Teen Alley teen centre (13-15 years).

Everything is an easy walk or FREE shuttle bus ride away from chairlifts and all resort amenities.

Agree on Tremblant and Stratton. You'll notice a lot \ if not all Intrawest resort have built a town on the mountain to allow you to spend your money nowhere else with providing us with extreme conveinence... HOWEVER, you hurt the local businesses in the end... THAT'S ANOTHER DISCUSSION ALL TOGETHER.

Waterville has a small village at the base a little shopping. Always something going on. Sleigh rides. A few places to eat. A shuttle that goes to the mountain. No driving. Easy to get to of exit 28 on 93.
As far a Loon many on site or shuttle seviced Condo's. The Hotel at the mountain is very cool. Some shopping in town again easy to get to. Quite a few nice places to eat. It is a resort atmoshere a little less hard core. 2 miles of rt 93.

North Conway has the most going on. I go for a weeks vacation there every year. A car minmal travel is necessary, but mountains are close if your bride wanted to drop you off and get you later...she could not get bored with the town.
Outlett malls. Getting there is a pain, once your there its fantastic.
Kickstand of our board has a place he rents and uses there. He is the best resource IMO on the area on that side of the Kanc. I know the otherside quite well. Send us a pm if more info needed.

Mount Saint Anne is cool as hell too. You're not on a slopside village but Quebec City is very close and is a fantastic place. The village at Tremblant is modeled after Quebec City.

Smuggs? Not if you're a non-skiing...

It is out there, and nothing is close...I mean she could got to Burlington, but that's a run...and I LOVE smuggs

How come no one mentioned Sugarbush? Lts of stuff at the base, and the area is arounf is close and very nice...

Never been, but I've hears the loaf has a nice village

And Stowe, while there is no slopeside (but why would it matter if she's not skiing?) IS Vermont...if you stay at the Stoweflake I'm sure the spa will impress her...never mind that the town has been quite built up, but that would be good for her...Or Stay at the Trapp Lodge...I love that place...The hills are alive...

I vote Stowe

Check that....

I say Lake Placid Or Stowe...both have different character.... Mascar Mountain...It's so hard to chose...

Because it depends on the type of skiier you are...actually, all three of those Mountains are damn good...

I gotta better idea....take 3 long weekend trips

EDIT: If it has to be slopeside, The 'bush wins...and visit Chez Henri...best cheese fondue around

The Mussles in White wine sauce is to die for....

Smuggs is pretty boring if you are not a skier.

I would vote for Tremblant, all Intrawest, all the time.

Lake Placid is pretty nice too, but not really slopeside. Stowe is okay, but not as nice as LP

I think you have that backwards

It is all a question of perception.

I like LP better than Stowe. For me, it seems to be more ambiance in LP than Stowe. For scenery, Stowe is better, but I am not in "scenery" kind of guy. LOL

It is all depend what you are looking for.

The person who started this thread was looking for Slopeside I love LP, but it's 9 miles from Whiteface, and I'm glad it is, but that ain't slopeside. I believe the village of Stowe is 8 miles from the mountain. I threw Smuggs in cause it is slopeside. It may not be a great village, but it meant the criteria.

How in the world can you say the scenery is better at Stowe than LP? That's silly. From LP you've got two lakes and views of about twenty peaks over 4000', many with dramatic scars ripped into their flanks. Stowe's got none of that. Don't get me wrong, I love Stowe. I just can't begin to understand that statement.
