Doc,

Please don't post race spoilers in the thread titles.

Thanks.

Sorry, the excitement of what she did yesterday got to me! If she stay's healthy, and is now a legit 4 event threat, she'll be hoisting another large crystal globe in late March again!

I totally understand.

I saw your post just before I sat down to watch the first run. Said to myself "Dang!", meaning the result was spoiled. So decided I'd not look at any more ski forums the rest of the day until the race was over.

Her second run was a sorcher. She was flying. Then she had to put the brakes on and I immediately thought there was no way she'd pull off first place. I was wrong, of course. What a run huh?

Now anticipation builds for the men's. Are you able to watch on cable where you are? Or are you limited to the web broadcast?

I've got the universal HD channel as part of my cable network, so I get to watch the WC races in 50" full HD glory :)

I think it was in March of 2007 at the World Championships in the Womens Downhill, Lindsey was 19th fastest at the mid-point and she scorched the bottom half in an all out effort and finished 2nd. I never heard of someone making up that many positions in 1/2 of a world cup downhill before.

The win also sets a new record in American skiing. She is now the first American, man or woman, ever to win a World Cup race in all four disciplines; slalom, giant slalom, downhill and super G. Amazing!

I had the pleasure of watching her win a World Cup DH at Lake Louise last December.

Umm, gymnast, not to take any credit away from Lindsey (I think she's awesome!), But Bode's won in all disciplines too ;) :flag: Although it's been a while since he's been ontop of a slalom podium ;)

Also, she has never won a GS. She has won in four disciplines however, DH, SG, SL, SC

Vonn

I know the author of this piece and she's usually pretty accurate.

American Stuns at World Cup

Lindsey Vonn is a speed freak. A downhiller. She won the overall World Cup title last year after an unbeatable season in downhill.

So why does she look so surprised in the photo, and what's that thing surrounding her jaw? Well, that wire is a mouth guard, worn in slalom races so the rebounding gate doesn't do any lip bashing. And Vonn is surprised because she had just won the season's first World Cup slalom in Levi, Finland; a win unexpected by everyone, including herself. Last season, her best World Cup result in slalom was 11th place.

What makes her top spot on the podium even more unbelievable is that Vonn nearly slid out in the middle of her second run and had to shed speed to overcome the mistake, yet she got back in it and won by an amazing near half second (40/100ths).

The win also sets a new record in American skiing. She is now the first American to win a World Cup race in all four disciplines; slalom, giant slalom, downhill and super G. That's what Bode Miller hoped to do, and he may yet accomplish it, but Vonn forever will have the record of being the first American to do it. The legendary Mahre twins and Tamara McKinney each competed before super G was a recognized discipline. Picabo Street never won the overall World Cup title, and won only nine WC races in her entire career; her fame came mainly because of her unusual name and outgoing personality.

But Vonn has already won ten downhill races, and she is only 24. The beautiful blonde racer may be more familiar to fans as Lindsey Kildow, her name before she married former teammate and Olympian Thomas Vonn last year. But whether Kildow or Vonn, her name will make history when it comes to U. S. ski racers.

Here's Lindsey's - Note NO GS victories as of yet.

Hate to break it to you, but your author friend needs to do a little more fact checking

Thanks for the clarifications, guys. I'll pass along the corrections.

Good fact checking. Thanks!

Not a problem. Hopefully the claims of Lindsey winning in all disciplines will be true by the end of the year! Then the article can be chalked upto foreshadowing!

I just watched that. Was pretty cool.

What do they mean when they talk about a 'water injected hill'? Is that something to do with the snowmaking?

Where do you watch the race?
