My understanding of the situation was that the organizers were part of the problem, hence the blowup.

There seem to be a lot of conflicting stories on that. I wasn't there, so I don't know. I had already seen him acting crazy in person. So he had already lost my benefit of the doubt.

I just hope they can move on from all the past negative stuff and get the mountain to a good place. If he's not around, I think it will help. That might be a sticky situation though, remains to be seen.

There is no dispute that Ski the Whites was abusing the guy's liquor license and were putting him in an untenable position.

You give bars the business for not serving underage patrons or is this just some personal gripe you have with Black? For the liquor license holder they are the same in terms of legality. There was no other alternative for the guy with the Ski the Whites situation other than for him to break the law by letting them continue. Quit giving the real problem a pass here.

If there was no other alternative, how/why is the new management inviting Ski The Whites to return ? Seems to me the former owner could have worked to identify specific individuals who were breaking the rules.

You speak like you were there, but you were not. But that's just you, so whatever. Some reports say Ski the Whites was trying to police the BYOB. Who knows the truth, not you, not me, neither of us was there. I don't have a problem with him kicking them out. I have a problem with his pattern of behavior, which I was unfortunate enough to witness WITH MY OWN EYES.

Short hypothesis: ignorance.
Better question: why didn't Ski the Whites find a new home at any of the other ski areas within an hour's drive of Black Mountain if they were such a benefit to their host?

They ended up at Black Mountain of Maine, which seems pretty in line with their vibe. More so than anywhere else I can think of locally. It's a 1+44 drive, not too far.

Didn't realize they ended up there. Hopefully, they'll be better partners this time around. My base expectation is they get kicked out again before the end of the 25/26 season. Would love to be wrong though.

Eric is a software developer whose actual on the ground experience working at a ski area is as a ski instructor. He seems like a smart guy and will learn quickly I suspect. That said, he is bringing some cash to the operation so that is good to see and exactly what Black needs,

There is a reason Ski the Whites wasn't welcomed down the street at any other area and was relegated to a mountain that isn't even in the Whites, and it is because they are the road bikers of the ski world, with rules for thee and not for me.

I don’t think you are correct at all to put the onus on ski the whites.

He and Shephard also make up 2/3 of the Board of Directors for nonprofit ski area Antelope Butte, WY. A mountain helmed by former Cannon GM DeVivo.

BMOM is only for the LSS event.
White Mtn Ski Co fka STW continues to be located in Jackson, which had already become its primary location before the 2022 ... events.
(And GBA's Wild Corn moved to King Pine, although IIRC it might have already moved there beforehand, but perhaps just temporarily.)

As for those 2022 events, based on my discussions with the owner and two of his managers as part of the skimo race I organized there in March 2022, issues had certainly already been simmering with STW for awhile.

But STW to its/Andrew's credit had been very clear on *NO BYOB* at the FNL registration webpage.
Unfortunately, the special-edition-of-sorts FNL in conjunction with the Mt W bc ski festival -- managed (but not owned) by Tyler Ray (in his private capacity, not as part of his work at the time for GBA) -- provided an alternative/parallel registration webpage that included no such disclaimer/warning.
Then the even worse problem was that the far higher registration figures were not conveyed to Black Mtn, so the bar was understaffed that night.

"You can imagine where it goes from here."
(And no, the cable was not fixed.)
Although you probably can't imagine that when local law enforcement was called, nobody was available b/c they were out with Covid!
