I was there yesterday for first time, had a great time a definitely will be coming back. They are making bank at the champagne bar for sure. One thing they need to figure out is the Indy Pass redemption, there was an enormous line and not the best way to start the day. It boggles the mind that as a resort owned by Indy Pass, I cannot use the Indy Pass card that they mailed to me to go straight to lift. Especially since Entabeni who bought Indy Pass in 2023 is a friggin ski resort focused IT company.

Holy crap...that's a lot of Veuve!

I like that the Veuve & fondue thing is working for them, and that their prices are not predatory (not sure if Montage @ DV still has the Veuve yurt but Black's prices seem like a steal compared to what I remember there).

I don't know what DV is charging, but those Veuve prices at Black are about typical restaurant markup (roughly double retail). So in line with what they should be at a bar I would say.

Per Montage's Après Lounge menu, they are charging $205. Per Erik's most recent GM letter, Sunday River is charging $175:
I firmly believe in capitalism and everything that it represents. One of our best-selling products after lift tickets is Champagne, and we sell a ton of it. Our 750ml bottle of Champagne here is $99. At Sunday River, that exact same bottle is $175. That is 75% more. Sunday River is a fantastic place to ski, with fast lifts and big offerings.

Gonna be a cold one on Saturday, so thinking of heading to Black again instead of Wildcat. And adding another bottle of champagne to the Alpine Cabin wall :)

Yeah that was a weird email. But I think he was saying even though all data points show they could get away with paid parking, that’s not their MO. Especially the line of “don’t confuse profits with success”.

In other news, Erik makes it clear this will be his last season as GM of Black.

Veuve isn't even a good champagne for its price - but it has a great marketing team. I'd rather drink something like Pierre Moncuit.

Agreed. I'd absolutely take a good grower Champagne over Veuve. But no one will recognize those bottles like they would recognize a bottle of Veuve. Like you said...they have the marketing and brand awareness.

I like Champs, but Korbel is about my level. I spend too much $ in bars, but these prices even at Black blow my mind a bit.

GM floating paid parking
Last lines say otherwise:
This little mountain will not take pride in extracting more money at every opportunity, even if it could mostly go unnoticed. Sure, we have a small parking problem, but that small problem should never cause us to make a much bigger mistake.

Pricing will remain reasonable, and parking free.

Thanks for being here.

yes that makes me sad. Not sure if it will
Do as well without him, he certainly has passion and drive. I hope he retains a good % ownership and stays on the board.

Heard he bought a house in Jackson… maybe he’s planning on staying? Just not being GM?

Hi all I am currently making a school research project on the effects of the buyouts of ski resorts on the public. It would greatly help my project if you all answered this quick survey on your own experiences with your mountain before and after it was last bought. https://forms.office.com/r/ksggegkbg1
