Date Skied: 12-20-2009

Resort or Ski Area: Blue Mountain

Conditions: 4" Fresh Pocono Powder

Trip Report: Day #4. Woke up to around a foot of snow this morning, up 4 feet in the drifts. Cleaned the car, wife's car and made a quick path from the house to her car. Got on 78 and it looks like it's been a few hours since a plow has gone by. Perfect. Moving around 40 MPH. Road conditions gradually got better as I got closer to PA. Total trip took about 40 minutes longer then normal.

First run was Lazy to Falls. Everything is pretty chewed up already. I'm not surprised. The Jet Fuels love this conditions. I'm not used to rocketing through the crud on my Crossfires. Falls was awesome. Next run was Main Street to Shuttle. While Main Street was a blast, Shuttle was just plain old boring, so I mostly stuck to lapping Lazy Mile. On my 4th run I met up with GSS, Moe Ghoul, and Nazareth Jay. Met up with TP4 on the next run.

Then out of nowhere, my nephew skis up next to me in the lift line. His dad's new girlfriend is a skier and they decided to go get some today. Skied a few runs with them, but my nephew wanted to get some speed runs in, so we ditched them and just lapped Lazy for a few. We did one more late day run down Main Street. The top part was still really nice but the bottom (after Midway) was really choppy with some bumps forming. The Jet Fuels didn't seem to mind going through or over the bumps at all. Cool. I can tell that these skis are going to help get me to a more advanced level of skiing. Then we did one non-stop run down Burma Road. Easy fun cruising...no speed traps.

Lazy Mile into Falls was the run of the day, only because I was avoiding the traverse back on Shuttle. I probably would be just fine with my Crossfires tomorrow, I'm going to take the Jet Fuels out for another day, after everything is all groomed over. I'm hoping Paradise will open tomorrow. They were grooming parts of it as well as spinning the quad today. So much snow making going on. It's really impressive.

Thanks. Everybody loves to see a little snowmaking :) Winter might have been slow to start, but it seems like it's here now.

Nice pics there Root! Great snowmaking porn shots!

ditto that.

I was laughin as there were real moguls on Midaway later in the afternoon. Fun day. We (my 2 boys and I) just kept sweeping the open trails; (1)lazy mile to the falls, 2) boot up on the 6-packy and cruise tuts to Main st. Then 3) boot up on the main st lift and ski racers to midway/main st back to the quad. repeated many many times. I just finished skiing blue 5 days in a row. I got to take off tomorrow to start/finish Christmas shoppping. But I'll be back Tuesday.

Hey All,

I'm back from a fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. The roads were pretty well plowed driving up and it only took me an extra 5 minutes to drive the 17 miles to the best mountain between 248 and 209. I arrived around 735AM and spent about 5 minutes doing donuts in the unplowed parking lot. I then booted up and a minute later NazarethSkier Jay arrived. M-Bike Mike was also at the ticket check waiting to be scanned in. I'm guessing Blue received between 3-6 inches of snowfall..it was hard to tell exactly due to some drifting. On the first run I hopped into some sweet windblown Pow on the side of Tuts lane. There was nice packed powder on Lazy Mile with some freshies on the side. Main Street was great on the top half but a little chunky and cruddy on the lower half. I saw Justo, Ty and KT but didn't hang with them. Then Root arrived along with Moe Ghoul and TheProgram4. Lazy Mile became crazy Mile and there were apparently a few collisions.

At some point it was time to brush up on the skiers responsibility code so me, TP4 and Moe Ghoul went in the woods for a safety meeting. I also got to take a slug of Moes special drink with was some sort of Boubon mixed with schnapps..A couple goobers followed us into the woods and were dissapointed that it wasn't a ski trail. Back down at the base of the 6-pack there was a solid liftline and the liftline attendent was out counting to 6 like a champ. He really needs a broken ski pole to direct the people and be more legit. We then cut over to Come Around and found about 50 yards of sweet untracked cold smoke champagne powder on the side..people from the lift above were like whoop whoop..you just have to be on your toes because there are rocks and death cookies..it was mad Run DMC..It's Tricky..lol

By this point lower Main Street was becoming bumps with some icy patches..we took the Main Street chair with no liftline and I did a last run down ComeAround to secret powder stash under the lift to midway to lower mainstreet to shuttle to homestretch to my car to the BMDI where I met Moe Ghoul. This was my 3rd time in the past 8 days at the BMDI..It's nice stimulating the Danielsville economy while elevating my cholesterol level. Anyway you slice it or dice it..it was a fun morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain with several PASRs in attendance..I'm guessing that by the day after Xmas..almost everything will be open as they are blowing on Challenge, Paradise, Danger-Dreamweaver and Burma looks ready to open..Maybe they'll be 100 percent including the Sidewinder park by New Years...thank you Mother Nature!!! High Five for stoke...
