Hey All,
I'm back from a fun 2.5 hour session at Blue. I rocked out to some T-Pain and Kanye West on the drive up. When I left at 6:45AM, it was 37 and raining. On the drive up there were alot of cops so I took it slow. The temperature dropped to 34 degrees by the time I made it to the mountain and I parked at the top lodge because it was mixed precipitation up there which is better for booting up. Unfortunately another storm where we were right on the rain/snow line. I clicked in to my skis by the ski school office and glided down to the ticket check. At 7:27AM the guy asked me what time it was and I said 7:30 and I was the first person scanned in. I flew down a perfectly groomed Vista to Midway to Main Street to Shuttle to the lower park and onto the 6-pack at 7:29AM. I went down Challenge which is the best it's been all year. The 1.5 inches of new snow from yesterday blended in well with the existing base. Then I saw Gahskier George and skied a bunch of laps with him.
George and I liked Paradise the best and Lazy Mile and Main Street were great as well..fresh soft cord..and fast. The rain continued to fall persistly with a few sleet pellet and wet snow flakes mixed in near the peak. Best of all...no people. Skiing in the fog with 30 skiers is fine but when there's 1,000 it's dangerous. We were then joined by a few of Georges buddies and his friend in the Blue ripped Barneys bumps. I had to stop halfway downa and he took them nonstop and the bumps were carvable but still fairly solid and irregular. They need to mow down the bumps and seed some new lines. I split up with all of them a few runs later because they said they were going to take the "Loser Lift" which is what they call the slow Main Street chair. I ended up skiing Come Around to the Chute and back to the 6-pack. Then I skied Challenge which was getting a little sloppy..still nice but more skied off followed by Paradise which was sa-weet. By this time my legs were getting soaked from the rain. My jacket held up great and I just got a PM from Jeff saying that it's now on SteepandCheap for 80 bucks...doh..oh well.
I took the 6-pack up one final time and then skied Tuts lane to Connecter to Come Around to Burma..The whoop de doos were mad steezy on lower Comearound and Burma was so smooth with fresh cord remaining on the wide middle section at almost 10:00AM. I then took the Main Street chair back to the upper lodge and left. There was a pretty good line of cars arriving at 10:00AM. In total I skied 16 runs off the 6 pack and one off the main street chair. not a bad session in the rain...a good way to start off the new year. Now back in the A it's 42 degrees out and the sun is coming out..crazy weather.
