Date(s) Skied: 13-Dec-2009
Resort or Ski Area: Blue Mountain
Conditions: death chunks (AM) disolving into spring snow (PM)
Trip Report: : I was there with son#2 today. If it wasn't for him insisting we stay and ski, I would have left after one run. As Root reported, grapefruit sized deathchunks. After steller openings at Hunter and Camelback, I was like "forget this". But son#2 insisted. Stayed on vista/midway (skiable snow) until about 9:30 or so then went back to Main St. The warmer temps and steady light rain turned the death chunks into spring snow! It was actually pretty enjoyable! Ski teams were out in force. They opened up Come Around at noon and most of the jib honks disappeared from main st. We had Main St spring snow all to ourselves. Warmer temps also totally fogged out the trails until you were at the lowest levels. Downside was we were soaked and getting cold. We stayed until about 1:30 (still raining) and aside from the snow getting pretty chopped up later in the day, it was a vast improvement to what it was like in the early AM. Son#2 still wanted more but I was cold and wet. That, plus I did not want to drive home on those roads if it got below freezing later in the day.
Pays to have die-hards in tow I guess
I'll be back Thursday/Friday.
