It's been observed that that "Does not" Bode "well" has visited half the drinking establishments of Turin. The only thing that keeps him from visiting all of them is that these darn races get in the way.

This guy should be given a complimentary Chianti and be sent home

I was expecting a joke. Oh well.

Is the magnitude of one's jerk-ness a direct correlation to the number of bars one attends?

The day of the athelete as choir boy is over.

He skied his butt off yesterday and would have won the combined except that he straddled one gate. He came in fifth in the down hill. He's doing his job and if wants to have a few drinks afterward that is his business as far as I'm concerned.

The US Ski Team walked into a bar.

You'd think one of them would have ducked.

(I was really hoping for an actual joke, too. This will have to suffice)

Its about time there is a role model out there like Bode. He's just an average guy. Compare him to most other people children and moronic adults look up to. So he likes to drink and can't keep his big mouth shut...I got the same damn problem.

Could you imagine the fall our if Barry Bonds on 60 minutes said, "Yeah, right before I smashed that home run, I stuck a needle in my butt...haha". Give me a break, Bode's everyday antics are nothing compared to what most other celebrities are up to.

I was so happy when I saw some kids idolizing Bode, its about time they found someone with more evolved morals then Paris Hilton getting video taped harrassing normal people and calling it TV.

I'm glad that some others agree with me. I was beginning to think that everyone in the world viewed Bode in a negative light. Fact of the matter is that the guy is some sort of philosopher/athlete; two terms which are not put together these days.

Man Ram is not the analogy that comes to mind though. For those of you in Sox Nation old enough to remember, I put into evidence Bill "The Spaceman" Lee. Bode is similar in that he has clearly thought about and analyzed the image that he wants to portray, brings an intelligent voice to support non-mainstream positions, and (though a success in every way) NOT the role model you'd want your kids to emulate.

Let Bode be Bode.

Bill Lee...Oh yeah....

I just said Manny because of the "Manny being Manny" bit. They're both practically savants in their fields, you have to take the oddball personalities with their amazing production.

If I had a kid I would much rather him go get wasted, read a few books and go ski then pop a cap in that dudeizzle because the kilo of coke was lightizzle you dig foshizzle.

The girls can do the same...its a lot better then letting the whole world watch her in debbie does night vision.

You got to put your role models in perspective time have changed...beer and a book or blow and a bullet? Mr. Rodgers and his V-Neck just doesnt make the cut no more.

whoa, much respect to bode and let bode be bode is fine with me. he is a killer athelete bringing a sport to the front covers of magazines and front pages of newspapers and i am cool with that. but a role model? i don't think so. and i say that not because he parties, hell, i party a lot. but rather he gives off an aloof, unconcerned, and uncaring vibe. you get the feeling he doesn't think about ramifications and others before he spouts off in the press, and then he gets pissed about the media going nuts over him when he makes wild comments. that to me says irresponsible and unwilling to accept the ramifications of his actions. he's a great skier and i don't care how he runs his life, more power to him. but i fail to see him as a role model. if my kid was looking up to him, i would be sure to point out he should admire him as a skier but also acknowledge the guy's faults. i'd say that about any supposed role model, no body is completely squeaky clean, but bode would be pretty far down on my list of people to look up to.

Bode's a great object lesson in what happens when you have a ton of talent and an ounce of dedication. If he were more serious about skiing, no one could stop him.

On teh other hand, he's also a great object lesson in doing what you love, and loving what you do. He does what he does as well as he wants to, and he loves doing it. That's not a terrible philosophy, in my book. He may never rack up the masive endorsement deals (advertisers are probably a little scared of what he might do), and his fame may be short lived (a career ending crash, and in a couple of years it's Bode who?), but that's not important to him.

No matter what you think of him, he has his priorities straight. His priorities, not anyone else's.

Well said, Steve. I agree completely.

A parent should be the #1 role-model for their kids, not some athelete or celebrity. If you can be a good role-model, you don't need to worry about Bode et al...

People said the same about Tommy Moe...called him a pothead derelict. And it was also kind of true.

His father kicked him in the ass and he got his act together and did pretty well in WC and the Olympics.

Now he's a skiing guide in the winter and a flyfishing guide in the summer in Alaska and is very successful.

I wish I had that kind of life, and I'd be happy if my kids turned out that way.

Hi my name is Bode Miller!

I read that harsh post about me and I guess you might have a point (hic). I I(hic), Well the best thing I like about ski-racing is taking my boots off. Did you see me after I straddled the gate. I switched over to my earth shoes in record time. I didn't even get mad. No, whacking my poles in the snow for me because I'm one level headed dude. We'll except when I have a few (several) beers.

Last night I went to Mama, Mias in Turin and I had a Chocolate Beer Man that's stuff is nasty. So I hang out and then like head to my gas guzzling mobile home to chill with my cooler and I thought Aw man what a drag I have to this Super-G race man. It's kinda cool, waking up all bleary-eyed and heading to the slopes.

If you noticed, I couldn't quite make up my mind on what skiis to use while I race. It just shows that I'm on top of things here just like I was dancing on the Bar Table last night doing Italian Karaoke.

The other day Ted Ligety thanked me for taking all the attention so he could just focus on skiing. Even though he is only 21 he is the one you should root for. I wonder what he will do with his Gold Medal? I don't even know where mine are! Honest the truth, why last year when found my World Cup Globe all smashed up I thought hey it's just a piece of glass you know sand'n stuff so why get all worked up. Actually I was really thinking "Dont mess with Old Hen" I would love to write more but I kinda feel sleepy, Don't worry I called Constantine Rocca and he said he would call before the race started. So I should be alright!

Well thanks for all your consideration keep cheering!

Haines you ever skiied in Europe? European skiiers drink WAY more than Americans (generally speaking of course). We're talking a couple Jagertee's during the day, a half-bottle of wine during lunch, 4 or 5 beers during apres (yet still on hill) and then down to the village for schnapps!

The Euro's aren't laughing at Bode. Their laughing at how the American media is making a few beers appear to be a national crisis.
