Sweet, just what SR needs, Bogner and Prada stores like Stratton.:puke: Maybe they'll throw in a bunch of six pack lifts, valet parking, and heated sidewalks too!

Might want to let them at least talk and hear what they say. Sounds like they have the commnity involved.
Always the diplomat Bob, kudos for that! Did they call you...are you going to be one of the chosen 21? They didn't call me...I must be bitter. I'll reserve my judgement and I'll ask around and see if they've invited any of the real locals...not just the town manager and GM of the resort. Actually, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt...when I first started to reply I was going to ask if they got a deal on the whole master plan diagram and model that ASC pipe dreamed up...but then I thought that was too cynical. If I find out that Steve the bartender...Roger from the Matterhorn...TvDave...ski check Doug or any of a number of locals are on the list, my faith will be restored. Right now all I hear is "brand managers" "maximizes the potential value" and Stratton.

I like the idea, I would like to hear what ideas they come up with...I really like the idea of connecting the town of Bethel, Newry & the resort. Makes complete sense, in my opinion. Good for real estate values. I have noticed lots of building, not sure the current demman could handle the supply of new homes going up. The model home in the Colony has been on market for a long long time.....

Let's not "assume" anything.... I'm sure the powers that be are more than willing to listen to the people ...and they are also in this to keep the business going... that may involve some changes that not everyone would be happy with... but we must not assume before we have all the facts.

I personally am excited for a bit of a change...

Regardless of how you feel about Intrawest Resorts (don't forget that's also Copper, WP, Whistler and others in addition to Stratton), a new operating company immediately announcing that they are about to embark on a serious and well thought out planning mission is a good sign for anyone that was wondering about the future in this neck of the woods.

What's basically being said here is that Boyne USA is serious enough about the future at Sunday River that they are going to work step by step on a vision for the future that incorporates the resort, the local property owners, the guests and the community. IMHO that's a good sign for everyone. Even folks like you and me who like to ski bumps, trees and powder. :)

I heard Bob was looking for a slopeside condo at stratton but the Homeowners Association took one look at the shirt he wore in his avatar and said no to him.

I will be grandfathered in. I bought before new ownership took over.
Stratton ha.
I'm sure they will love me with my professional attire.

I'm not as up to date on all this devlopemnt stuff. I'll take a wait and see. All I have read is Boyne had done well with its other resorts. Develpoment happens as well as change it just matters how it is handled.

I have seen nothing to change my views yet. If there are issues I"ll voice my opinion. (Big Deal) I have a few thigns to say when they closed early a couple years ago. All the weak snow year and money issues did not fly with me. They could have stayed open. I love the river , but I'm not blind.

When I was a semi-regular at Big Sky...I always heard bad things about Boyne..but that was more from the employees..they did shut down alot of lifts on uncrowded days..

Haha, it's not like we're talking about MRG here, Sunday River is already pretty resort-y.

Resorty yes...but ski/board resorty, good lifts, great snowmaking and quality snowsurfaces not shopping center resorty. There's a big diff between the current feel of SR and places like Newport RI, Freeport ME, Stratton...even Whistler (sure the mtns kick absolute ass, but the village is pretty commercialized)...I doubt there are many SR loyalists who want to see Banana Republic, GAP, Old Navy and all the other names at the bottom of our hill. If we want to go shopping, we'll go to Nconway or Freeport...we're here for the skiing, riding and comraderie...if we wanted hoity toity and haute couture we'd go somewhere else. Knock the river all you want, but the folks aren't up here for the cosmopolitan apres scene, fur shops, botiques, spas etc

Yeah but the people who want a cosmopolitan apres scene spend more money and Boyne is after attracting the $$$$$$..the average household income for skiers is higher than just about any sport including golf..if people are going to spend major loot they want a posh environment..a couple extra stores won't change the trails..

In my mind, northern New England
When LL Bean was still in the discussions for Sunday River, I remember being on a lift with some of the regulars and talking about what a good idea it would be to have one of their stores nearby to get gear and all that. I sure wouldn't mind an outdoor gear store near SR but would have serious concerns if the place turned into something like Wrentham north (I'm sure li'l snowmonster wouldn't mind). My only suggestion is to move Bob's barbecue trailer into the White Cap parking lot. That should be the cornerstone for any serious development plan!

I could see some shops, but they would have to be outlets or high end to work I would think. I don't see the ski folk coming up to the mountian to go to sears or target or any other box chain. BBQ bob's ...don't move it or maineskier69 will get confused. I don't plan on going shopping when i come up there. Maybe a pair of socks or gloves if i loose them. Thats probably it.
