Date(s) Skied: Breckenridge

Resort or Ski Area: 2.22.11

Conditions: packed pow, sunny, windy, 30ish

Conditions: Awoke to bluebird skies, single digit temps and 2 kids who didn't feel well. I felt guilty but after running to the store for some medicine i decided it was too nice a day to waste so i left them home and skied solo.

Since i was alone i decided to hit some stuff my kids wouldn't like. I started on Peak 10 but the main trials were pretty hard packed since it hadn't snowed in a few days and it has been windy. I did drop into tree protected Spitfire for some fun/challenging bumps. Rode a chair with a Ski Patrol (who didn't put the bar down) and got some tips on where to go. Found some steeper glade/bumps under the E Chair. Lots of fun but hard work.

Then i went to some of the bowls. First was Imperial Bowl. on the lift ride up saw a guy sitting almost at the bottom of the bowl with no skis, looked up and 20 yards from the top was another guy collecting his gear. He must have slid 200 yard! Imperial's runs weren't very long but the snow was nice.

I had to laugh when the snow i loosened during 1 turn was beating me down the mountain as i made my next turn. it was like racing mini avalanches.

Next i cut thru the Contest Bowl

Then took the T-Bar up to the Horseshoe bowl.

Finished the day on Mach 1. thought the sun would have made it a soft fun bump run but it wasn't very soft.

Fun day, hopefully kids feel better and get out tomorrow.

Nice.

My only trip out west was to Summit Co. We skied Breck and A Basin. Had a lot of fun in the bowls at Breck. Hiked the hard way up the ridgeline to the Lake Chutes.........and the next year they proceeded to make them lift accessible! Once the youngest gets a bit older I'll have to get the whole family out west.

Looks really nice. How were crowds? Doesn't look bad from the pics. I've read that Breck gets the most skier visits in the country. You couldn't have paid me to risk that during this holiday week but again it looks ok.

How were crowds?

crowds on Sunday @ Copper were not bad, 10 minute wait at the most but as the day wore on it was down to just as couple. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday @ Breck i don't think i waited more than 5 minutes but mostly like 2. Today (wed) it was practically ski on every ride.
