I was "chaperoning" my 8 yr old through th superpipe Saturday, screwed up a hop turn high on the wall, fell forward from pretty high up an landed squarely on my shoulder. I was able to ski away and drive home, but I knew exactly what had happened since it hurt a god bit and I could feel the bone moving in a way it shouldn't. My doc recommends no treatment other than rest, ice, and ibuprofen. He says the figure 8 brace isn't used much anymore.

So, I'm off skis for 4-6 weeks.

I can relate! I'm on week nine of mending mine. Did you get X-rays? I have two figure 8 braces if you need one.

i have broken both of mine. i thouhg tht ereason behind th brace was to keep your shoulders square.

You're right. If you've broken the bone into, the brace keeps the bones from overlapping too far, so you're not 2-3 inches narrower on one side. That's another reason I decided to have the surgery, the bone was overlapped 3+ inches.

Right where I want to be
Mine have both been broken as well and now I have golf ball size lumps on both and the was with using the brace. On another note have a cheap prebought tickets for sale. :)

Just got back from the family doc and the first x-ray. It's not a clen break in two, but rather severely displaced ends and a couple of small pieces floating around in there. I'll see the ortho on Weds and probably discuss surgery:cry:.

Surgery will make it right and clean out those bone fragments that could come back to haunt you later. Will probably put a SS plate on the top of the bone to stabilize it. I couldn't wait to have my surgery and get put back together!

Oops, sorry to here that Euler. If it is that "ugly" of a break, maybe it will be a quick titanium plate and a couple of screws to put it back together and in a couple of weeks after the incision has healed up, you'll be back on snow, enjoying what hopefully will be a LLLOOONNNGGG spring ski season @ Mount Snow! :)
