Went to the Ortho and he wants to let it try to heal on its own, and do another x-ray in 3 weeks to re-assess. He said my case could go either way in terms of surgery, that there were no clear benefits to outweigh the risks if I were to choose surgery at this point.

I'm resigned to this ski season being pretty well finished for me. I'm also getting really sick of peoples' reactions when they hear I broke it skiing in a halfpipe. For me, I'd much rather break a bone having fun and being a bit foolish than to get injured slipping on the sidewalk at home or something. At least I had the benefit of really fun experiences to counter my cyrrent misery!

I'm staying home a couple more days and will try to go back to work Monday.

Here's to hoping it heals on it's own!

Who know though Euler, you may be able to get out there and make some more turns again this season if you're careful.

Euler, hope that SoVt water has some super bone healing qualities and that things will stay in alignment for you! And I'm sure as you know, with how much snow is on our favorite SoVT hill right now, once you're all healed up you could still be looking at a solid 4-6 weeks of spring skiing this season!

If it helps from the frustration standpoint, while not a ski addict, my business partner is in a similair situation right now. He broke his left hand just over a week ago and is in a cast for the next roughly 6 weeks. He's a masters level competitive swimmer and plays in multiple mens league basketball games a week. Also, his wife and a couple of his kids are in Florida for the next 6 weeks(they're home schooled kids and competitive horseshow folks ), so he had it lined up for 5 nights a week of hoops and 3 to 4 mornings a week of swimming for the next 6 weeks, without any spousal guilt involved. Now, no sports for him while he heals

I'm with you on that one. Belongs in the "silly things people say about skiers and boarders" thread.

Would they rather have you in a Michellin Man suit? Come to think of it, that could be fun. Saw a Warren Miller movie once, two guys dressed in Sumo Wrestler outfits, kept skiing into each other, bouncing off then bouncing down the slope. It was a hoot!

I hear ya! That's what I got to hear after breaking mine doing moguls. Well maybe you're getting too old for this, or maybe this is a sign. I think this comes from people who wish they still could indulge the child in themselves, but for some reason have given up on that aspect of their self. I feel sad for them. All work and no play makes Jack,.... dead of a stress heart attack at 50!

Thanks for the kind words of agreement! I knew I could count on this board to give me a much needed counter to all the tssk-tssk-ing I've been hearing.

Hey look we ALL UNDERSTAND how you feel .
Hell its great to be alive and do this sport at some level of skill and the mass of humanity will NEVER get it BFD !!! I'd rather burn out than rust out !

Picabo Street in her book has a one liner that applies to "US" when hurt -- "When you're hurt , You're Dirt" but Euler you had some great times that MOST will NEVER experience and have had the pure joy of this great sport

Trust me YOU will get back probably for some GREAT SPRING skiing even if on some easier stuff . Vibes to you heal well

"I was teaching my son how to do a GSS Steezy 1/2 pipe trick"

"I was giving an example of the pythagorean theorem whilst skiing in the half pipe. The video would be shown in class."

"I thought I was being filmed for the next episode of "Right Arm" "

"I needed some video footage for Alpine Zone that wasn't of moguls @ Sundown..."
