It's a combination. We are lucky to have a lot of very good skiers at Sugarbush. But our snow management at Mt. Ellen plays a big role. You won't find those lines at most eastern ski areas, regardless of skier ability/density. We can discuss more in-person.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that Cliffs has seen a groomer on it all season and may be au naturale. Was snow blown on it a while back?
What is really nice is that pre-GMX II Cliffs was a desert wasteland and saw no use. After GMX returned, it was groomed and/or half-half. Now it has these nice bumps on it and the Freestyle Team has set up a nice course/jump on one side. It is very visible and I see a lot more people skiing the bumps or giving it a try. I notice a lot of folks on the chair checking it out....very nice.
The terrain mix at Mount Ellen is quite good. On Saturday, I spent a few hours with snowmonster skiing the trees, bumps, and groomers. On one run we started with some GS turns on Elbow, ducked into the trees in Bravo Woods, tried the bumps on Bravo, hit Way Back Woods on the way down, and snuck into an off the map locale before ending at the base of North Ridge with some more GS turns. That run took about 10-15 minutes and lots of fun. It's hard to find places where you can mix up the terrain so much on just one lift ride.
