Got out for the 1st time this year and brought my new GoPro (basic) camera with me. The HD version would have been cooler but I give my wife credit for surprising me with the one she got me :) .
Hit the mtn at 9:00 and it was already warm. The snow was super sticky and the situation wasn't helped by the fact I was on my rock skis which haven't seen a proper waxing for quite some time. Almost all of the trails except for Upper Warren's way and Lews Leap were open. There were a few glades open as well. Lets just say I'm glade I was on my rock skis even with the lack of wax. Some of the trails were down right bare in some spots, Ledges was probably the worst and I didn't even bother skiing it as there was more rock than snow in many places. Did fast runs on the trails that had seen snowmaking, Willoughbys, Dippers, Lower Bear Den. There were some natural trails that were good but had some holes in them. East Bowl was good and the bumped up ungroomed state made it easy to catch air over the dirt spots. However, the runout was extra suck on the sticky warm snow. Ducked into a couple glades. Sasquatch was rough and Caveman was okay but thin. Unfortunately, I did have the GoPro set right to record during my decent of these.
ROTD was The Gap. This a natural cover trail that sees very little traffic. There was still some nice unconsolidated soft snow with some nice bumps developing.
Now, after the major thaw is over, Burke is down to just the snow making runs. Hopefully we start to see a recovery soon.

I recorded a POV of my first run of the year, non-stop top to bottom on Uppper and Lower Willoughby. 2:15 top to bottom isn't bad considering the stick snow and a bit of traffic. Does anyone else have terrible sound quality with their GoPros? The only time it picks up anything good is when recording wind noise once I get up over 30mph. BTW YouTube really butchers the non-HD video quality.

I was there as well, my first time at Burke. Willoughy was sweet, very carvable and smooth. I ventured a little bit into the natural trails, but the thin cover made things right at the level of my ability. All in all a great day, and a great mountain.

Too bad I missed you. I would have gladly made a few runs. If you saw a guy go zipping past in an orange/gray jacket with some wierd thing strapped to his helmet, that was me :)
