Trip Report:
The big chill is in as we had a 20 degree cooldown after yesterday. They're down to Dipper and Willoughby-to-Lower Warrens. Dipper was excellent with outrageously soft snow. Willoughby isn't good... to quite the sign at the lift: "Sketchy." Had to ski grass a few times, the snow covered parts weren't all that great either. Lower Warrens was pretty good... soft in most places, but down to the grass in a few as well.
They fixed up the field down to the base of the lift, and there's a good foot of base about a cat track wide, and no rivers! Excellent after what it looked like Wednesday. The bottom of Dipper back to the front of the lodge is still very well covered too. Open Slope is hanging on... they patched the crappy spot after it peels off of Dipper but it's still thin up there. They also groomed around the crappy spot after Carriage Road meets Dipper but it's still a bit crappy there. The rest of the trail is in great shape and most of it still edge to edge which is amazing.
The lift was having trouble the entire time I was there. There were periods where it would run very slow for 5 minutes or so, then speed up and slow right back down for another 5 minutes. There were other times when it ran fine for a while then it would go back to running slow. I assumed it was a wind sensor problem as it was gusty up there. I didn't ask the lifties what was up, but hopefully it's just that and nothing major.
I'll be back up there tomorrow afternoon for a little while... my last time up there for the year (can't believe it). They cancelled pond skimming next weekend, but might still open up anyway (weather is interesting this week... models keep flipping between 30s and some snow and 50s with showers). But if you're on the fence, Dipper alone is worth it.
