Trip Report:

Today was the farewell tour for me at Burke for the season, as they'll be weekends only for the next 2 weeks and I'll be home on spring break. After some very winter-like days the past few times out, it ws very nice to finish it off with a beautiful spring day. Snow was soft everywhere. Dwindling crowd while I was there 1-4, in fact when I went into mid-Burke just before 4 my skis were the only ones on the racks!

I only had a few hours, but that was plenty of time to hit all my favorites one more time. Started with what has become my favorite first run this year... Shoot to Birches. I like being able to take a few turns down a decently steep groomer to get my legs going, then hop right in the trees. Birches had some bare spots popping out, especially down low, but not bad. Nice and soft.

Headed off the map from East Bowl next, which had excellent snow in the woods. Tons of coverage left up top in the low-traffic areas, 3/4 of a pole deep in some spots. East Bowl runout was a pain with the sticky snow.

Next up was Doug's, to check out the bumps. An occasional good line, and everything that was there was soft, but I wish more people would ski it and really get it bumped up.

Fox's was next, obviously getting thin and icy around the rocks but very fun. Some lady on the lift yelled at me for jumping one of the rocks instead of going around lol. Soft snow made for nice landings. Lower Fox's was beautiful butter for carving.

Hit Jungle next which was getting pretty thin. Down low it was almost impossible to take a line that didn't get bare in the deeper troughs. Whatever snow that was in there was nice and soft though. Kept going down to Dashney Mile to check out the park. Still in great shape.

Finished up with a repat of Fox's followed by Warren's Woods/Little Chief and Doug's Woods/Marshland. Those woods are all still in GREAT shape. Didn't come across a single bare spot in any of them. Maybe a rock if you were unlucky, but absolutely incredible for March 31st. Great runs to finish off the day.

If you're coming up this weekend, forecast is for 6-10" tonight and tomorrow, so a good refresher followed by what sounds like a sunny weekend. I'll be at Wachusett closing day on Sunday, they're supposed to get about the same for snowfall as well as a nice day for Sunday.

Hey Zand,
Sounds like a great last day at Burke. Thanks for all the Burke reports this year. They were some of the most detailed, informative, well written trip reports posted anywhere. I felt like I was there. I don't get to Burke much, so when I do it's nice having your reports as a guide on how to work the mountain efficiently. Hopefully you'll be back at it next year.

Thanks for keeping me updated on my home mountain. I hope to be there on Sunday. Maybe the last ride on Willoughby for a long time.
