That is interesting.....not sure what to make of it.

(a). It was always 2011' and they rounded to a round number...in this case, 2000 feet.

(b). The technology they had, and their best estimates, were that it was 2000 feet and recent GPS findings suggested otherwise.

(c). The management, in an effort to boast interest, factored in the elevation between the top of the quad and the real summit....which could be about 11 feet or so...and they could argue, as Killington does with Catwalk, that one can hike up to the real summit and ski down (which some do).

(d). Mr. Ginn paid off the USGS to get the extra 11 feet. It is this season's big improvement.

At any rate, it's about time they updated the profile page of the mountain.

Actually option C sounds like it makes the most sense. I have hiked to the true summit to ski down. The summit is actually probably closer to 20 feet above the lift. Just a guess.

Yes I'd say that 20 feet is a better estimate. But remember that one has to hike UP the parking lot to get to East Bowl, and then UP again on East Bowl, which cuts into some of that vert.

Burke isnt alone, in fact the state of maine gained two Four Thousand Footers in recent years. Both Spaulding and Redington have 'grown' approx 10 - 20 ft.

In not sure if this is the case with Burke but the technology to precisely measure elevations has increased signifigantly in recent years and many elavations have been changed.

From a marketing prosepctive I could see them exaggerating the vertcal to get to 2000' but 2011' doesnt seem worth it.
