Resort or Ski Area: Burke Mountain Ski Area, Vermont

Conditions: SC

Weather Report: Sunny skies, lows in the 30's, temps rising to near 60F at the base.

Trip Report: Long overdue I know...but had to write about the last outing for this season with the Dawn Patrol. It was a PERFECT day for the BBQ. Skiing, well, there wasn't much of it. We did a whooping 3 runs before the party began--Carriage Road, Dippers, and a spin down Bear Den to Willoughby and Lower Bear Den. Our "local representative" did not fare well on Warren's Way and soon found himself like a turtle on his shell, but he came out unscathed.

After the third run, I helped with the second annual "Trailboss Grill Carry" which required skiing with Karl's grill from the top to the shelter. It was interesting, but I had company:

Good form with those carries.

From 10:15 until 1:15pm or so, we hung out and did the BBQ thing:

Nice perspective:

Matt ALWAYS seems to screw up a picture! TB, Becky, (Matt in Back), and the original trailboss.

Heineken's new poster boy with the chapeau!

Eventually the grills ran out of gas, but the fun did not. Karl demonstrated how real men ski:

With a "seeee-gar" in their mouth! The original trailboss must have made a killing off of the empties....

After everyone left, I skied my favorites including East Bowl (2x), Ledges:

In case the pics don't convey it, the conditions were mouth watering. It was the last good day of the season for Burke...rains took Doug's, Lew's Leap, and many other natural trails later that weekend.

But I forgot to mention the highlight of the day: how it started. I was prepared to buy my ticket (half price promo). As I was hanging out with the crew, another local came over and asked, "anyone need a ticket? I have extra 10-pack tickets that will not be used." She gave me one and the day was on the house. What a nice gesture! My goal has been to pay that forward.

I miss the crew...but I am looking forward to hopefully seeing some of them this summer.

That last pic is great. I was hoping to make it there this year but looks like that's off the table.
