So mother nature threw us a bone and Camelback received between 8-10 inches of wet snow (and some freezing rain more on that in a sec). Arrived at the parking lot and felt like I was transported back to January with the mountain and trees on the mountain caked in snow, a really pretty scene. About 90% of the mountain was open. 2 trails that I saw closed (didn't ski the whole mt just west side) were Hump and Rocket but it did'nt look like a case of thin cover, just that they had not gotten to them with the groomers. The groomed runs skied great. Went over to Cleo bumps which were obviously not groomed but open and started down. It was about an inch of snow on top of a layer of crust on top of 8-inches of beautiful snow. A couple of bumps down, my feet came to a complete stop as my upper body continued down the hill:-o. Needless to say after that I used the rest of that run to break down the crust into a skiable line. Another skier came down and pulled the same move and he and his buddies helped me breakdown the rest of the line. After that it was several fun runs on Cleo bumps.

It was a great job by Camelback to open today and I give a hearty Thank You to the employees who came into work and made it happen. This was really a bonus day for me because I thought I was done for the season there when I drove out of the lot St Patties day. The Pocono season still has life. For anyone not going up north but looking for local skiing this weekend the base still looks quite healthy. They are supposed to shut after 3/27 but if the weather cooperates I wouldn't be surprised if they try for April 3rd.

Did you ski any of the beginner terrain my any chance? I'd like to bring my gf tomorrow, but if it's a sheet of ice or really crusty obviously that's no fun for anyone, especially beginners.
