What a day! Got there at about 8 with my buddy Barry, and grabbed the 10th chair up Peabody. can't believe how much snow they got, and the difference since the thaw. Headed straight for Avalanche and got probably 10th tracks down, it was really SWEET! Knee to thigh deep the whole run. Headed back up and hit the old lift line of Spooky. Again amazing with thigh and almost waist deep in some places. Cannon said they got 2 feet, and that was a good call, but I think they got more like two and half because it was deep and light in a lot of places. Headed over to Zoomer and hit Paulies again for some fresh tracks and deepness, actually got the first white room of the season, oh so good!! The glades are still needing some base, but if this next storm lines up it is going to be good to go. Really want to get back out there tomorrow, but not happening..... Still Plenty to be had so go get it!!! No pics, to good to stop and pull out the camera. Go get it Cannonball!

trail under the lift was unskiable for me withing an hour, to the left from the top i found nice trails that started out as little entrances you could barley fit through..they still had nice cover....
once cover started to go away i found the place really dangerous, had a really hard time turning etc even though i can ski normal steep terrain n/p..
now that i have finally made it over there to ski it i see its only gonna be skiable a day or 2 max after a snow storm except for the elite...

I do not have a problem with being elite.

This was just one big storm and all fluffy snow with not much underneath. I'm not saying it will happen reliably, but with a more typical NE firm snowpack natural stuff won't get reduced to bare spots in a few hours of operation.

This fails to take into consideration the fundamental difference at Mittersill. What only lasted a few hours of operation normally holds for a week or more before the lift. Yes, there was not much base and it wasn't the absolute most dense snow in the world though it was dense. But all the same, this type of storm would normally mean game on for a at least two weekends before it got really bad. Its just a higher volume of traffic effecting the conditions. This is why I am pro snowmaking (on the major runs and slopes) at Mittersill even though I was very much against the lift. They just don't get enough natural to support the traffic levels that chair will bring without snowmaking.

At least IMBY this is the softest snowpack I've seen living here for 4 winters now. Can just gently dig down to the grass.. Usually there are several layers of crust and whatnot.
Wish someone at Cannon did a core sample of the snow to quantify this, but I'd argue for this depth of snow, the water content is anomalously low.
