Resort or Ski Area: Cannon

Conditions: Mostly manmade snow, fairly icy, some powder on Tramway

Trip Report:
Took the kid to Cannon for the first trip of the season. Got the second-to-last space in the Peabody upper lot at 9:15, which tells you how non-crowded it was. Not much was open, only Tramway from the top and Cannon and Ravine from mid-mountain, plus Gary's and Rocket. Tramway had some nice cut-up powder alternating with glare ice, and Middle Ravine was horrible frozen granular. Did a run on Rocket, but it was icy frozen moguls on the right and a steeply inclined hockey rink on the left.

After lunch, kidlet and I spent most of the afternoon orbiting the few open trails in Tuckerbrook, which got old kind of fast, at least for me. His favorite thing to do was bomb Deer Run at 30+ mph. Managed to get him over to Eagle Cliff right before it closed and we went down Gremlin, where he kept trying to straightline the steep-ish parts. Note to self: get him on more challenging trails where he'll have to turn. I remember my parents having the same issue with me at that age. :)

I thought he'd be rusty after the summer (I was), but if anything his skiing was notably better than it had been at the end of last season. Ski school told me he was nervous at first, but did great after that.
