Adiron,Sunday Cannon was getting quite a few bare spots. The whole MT is still operating except the tram. The south wind was blowing at the start of the storm and from my experience, the snowfall is probably blown around.Should still be a pretty good closing weekend.Pond skimming on Saturday with a reggae band outside if the weather permits.I'll be there on Sunday if you want to say hi.Look for the big blonde guy on the deck.

They are listing the Cannonball as "day to day" so that doesn't bode well. I am unimpressed with only 33 trails. Cannon had been an outside shot for tomorrow, but VT is getting upslope and will be powdery. If you can make it to Jay or any of the Northern Greens, the skiing will be much better than Cannon I suspect. I say that as a guy that loves Cannon.

I wont be able to make it to those places, Ive got a season pass at Cannon and really cant swing a full price ticket bout now. Cannon will have to suffice if Tucks isnt cooperating.

The first 2 hours today was great at Cannon! Yes, there were bare spots, and some trails had little or no base remaining before this new snow. But the new snow covered virtually everything.

Coverage varied from 8" to 16" of new snow, even on the same trail from one side to the next. Some places it drifted in very deep next to the trees, other places it was much thinner, but still great late season cover. I was surprised it wasn't heavier. Certainly not champagne powder, but it was powder none-the-less.

Met up with Jim I., as we both arrived at 9AM, and headed straight to the top. All due respect to Patrol, there's good reason the ropes were up, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to ski some of the East's best trails. We got 1st tracks on Taft > Upper > Middle Hardscrabble! Just great.

We got to the bottom of Taft, looked back at our tracks in a foot plus of powder, and couldn't believe it was 4 days before closing. I should have brought the camera.

Had to be 16" deep on skiers right all the way down Lower Hard. Even the last pitch (which was bare a few days ago) had great snow!

We rode the chairs back up and got 1st tracks on Vista Way, though that had received not more than a foot. Back up again, we pushed the envelope and tried Skylight - bad idea, it had about 8" on zero base, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but we still had a good run.

Down on the front 5, Zoomer and Avalanche don't get any better. Several great runs there, and I had to head to work.

OMG, though they'll groom the main trails overnight, it should hold up pretty good tomorrow, and probably through Saturday morning. Many of us plan on quitting at Noon to watch the pond skimming, anyway

Don't expect Patrol to open a whole lot of terrain this weekend, though, because there's lots of mixed rock and ice along with the more forgiving dirt and grass under that new snow. As mentioned above, the mountain was looking pretty bare by the end of last weekend. Too bad we lost so much of the base, but THANK YOU GOD for the new snow!

LFTGLY,your a dirtball.Wish I was there. As far as ducking ropes,Cannon is as liberal as any mountain at turning their heads to that practice.Last week we were sitting at the rock on Taft and Bill Mead and another female patrol came and hung out with us.It was closed.

This assessment does not meet with my experiences. Few years ago, Salida and myself got nailed for skiing Middle Hard by the patrol (think it was the director, actually). We were spotted from the Quad and she sped down Lower to meet us at the end of Middle (before the Red Ball Extension was cut). Got a warning and a marker on our ticket, so Cannon does not look the other way with rope ducking. Though I think I have begun to notice a general trend that those that look like they are "in the know" get a free pass. For example, December this season I hiked up to the summit from the Peabody before the summit was open and skied Taft/Upper/Middle on a foot and a half of powder. Same exact patroler looked the other way when I exited out of Red Ball. I don't know what to make out of that other than it helps having a backpack and AT gear when breaking rules? Technically, I didn't duck any ropes on that excursion though...

Cannon was absolutely incredible on Sat. Coverage was amazing with zero thin spots with the 2 feet they got since Thurs. Soft pillows of powder all over Pauly's Folly, Avalanche, and Zoomer, with perfect soft packed powder everywhere else. Im pretty bummed my season is over, but man, I dont know if Ill ever get a better last day of the season than I did yesterday.

Me too Adiron.Sat and Sun were almost the best snow of the year.Tough to say goodbye with all that snow.I think I see a couple of hikes in my future with the new snow coming this week though.
Sorry to hear that River.Again this weekend we were at the rock Sat and Sun on Taft and the Patrol came by to say hi.The ropes were up and plenty of people skied by with them there.Oh well.
