I went to Cannon with a couple friends of mine, I knew it was going to be cold and windy (it is Cannon afterall), but I needed to take advantage of the big mountain while up in NH.
Temp was 9 degrees on our first run. Went to the summit and experience fresh pressed corduroy on Upper Cannon heading down to the Zoomer area. A few icy spots, but overall excellent conditions. A few runs down Avalanche and Rocket proved just as nice. I know they were using some of those trails for racing the past couple days, and they skied nice and fast. Went back up to the summit for a run down Upper Ravine onto Upper Hardscrabble, which ended up being in excellent shape and probably the best on map trail. Sharp left and right turns with some undulations and smooth snow, it skied great.
After lunch, we decided to hike up to Mittersill. This was going the first time for two of us, and the third for the last member of our group. We had some company on the hike up, and started down cautiously, not knowing how it was going to ski. It was very rough in some spots, with exposed rocks covering the entire trail in some spots. I ended up with some good sized gouges on my skies. Once we got down to the lift and it opened up, it skied a lot better with multiple lines where we could avoid the more exposed areas. I had some difficulty at times, mostly when I tried to stop and there wasn't enough snow so I kept skidding down into a small tree or bush. I would rate the overall experience as a C+, mostly because of the lack of snow cover. There is a good base, so another big snowstorm would make the conditions ideal.
We ended the day with another couple runs down Zoomer and one last one up to the summit. I dipped into some trees, but it was very run through with no powder to be found.
