FRANCONIA NOTCH, New Hampshire — Cannon Mountain's Snowsports School will offer its annual Instructor's Training Program beginning on Saturday, March 12, 2005. The four-day program, held over two consecutive weekends, is a great value for aspiring instructors and good skiers seeking to get better.
The Instructor Training Program runs on Saturdays and Sundays for two consecutive weekends with at least four hours of training a day. The total cost, including lift tickets, is $195, space is limited. Course conductors include some of Cannon Mountain's top trainers, led by Technical Director Bill Cunningham. The Cannon Mountain staff trains extensively to improve in both individual skills and coaching ability. Participants should have the ability to ski most anywhere on the mountain. "This does not mean you have to be a fantastic skier," says Snowsports School Director Jack McGurin, "just having a desire to learn and improve is more important."
Some program participants have joined the Cannon Mountain staff after getting a taste for what a skiing lifestyle can be about, says McGurin. Being a coach is not for everyone, but helping people get into the sport, especially children, is very rewarding." Some participants join the program just out of curiosity to see what they don't know. According to McGurin, "a lot of information about skiing is shared in an easy way, and Cannon provides a scenic backdrop that is hard to beat."
