Cannon this weekend- will there be more glades open?

Thinking of heading to Cannon on Sunday. Questions for the locals or regulars:

Do you think by Sunday they might would open up a few more glades?

Is there any chance they'll open Mittersill? I have no idea what they consider enough snow, or what'll actually fall... I missed out on it last year.

Depends how much snow they get. And what consistency.

Many of Cannon's glades are rock strewn nasty affairs and it takes a lot to get them open. You can pretty much forget about Kinsman and Tramline for this weekend. You'll notice they only have the upper mountain glades open which have a more consistent mellow pitch and are better at catching snow. They don't even have Middle Hard open which is a good barometer for lower mountain glades.

If you are dead set on tree skiing and that is the make or break issue for you, NoVT will have a lot more to offer.

Agree. They need a good 12+ to get lower glades open. Upper portions of Mitty are skiable but forget about lower sections.

It's not a make-or-break, it just makes the day far more fun if there's something woodsy to hit. I'm also slightly worried that after a busy Saturday, the regular trails will be really icy.

I was in Stowe last weekend for a few days... I need a reasonably close target for this Sunday's day trip. ~2.5 hrs from Northborough that actually has snow.

Not disagreeing with my esteemed colleagues' posts above. But on the other hand.... considering that Cannon has had a few glades open lately under horrendous conditions, I wouldn't be surprised to see them dropping ropes left and right even with 6". The more important question is not whether they will be "open" but whether it's a good idea to get in there. That's up to you, but watch out for snakes and don't expect the equipment to come out unscathed.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to Mittersill open up. They've taken an ton of flack for installing a new lift that hasn't run at all this year. The last bits of vacation week combined with the first decent storm will be seen as a last chance opportunity to spin that thing.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand, nothing new open today.

I agree that Cannon management is probably chomping at the bit to get Mitty turning. As I've noted else where, it is a very likely possibility that the Mitty lift might not spin at all this season.

But, on the other hand, Cannon is notoriously uber-conservative on trail openings. And they are slow to get things moving when opening a new part of the mountain. I wouldn't be surprised to see them keep it closed on Saturday and evaluate conditions after it has been skied a bit. I bet getting things open down to the base area is going to be dicey. Maybe they surprise me, but I bet if it opens, it will open Sunday.

At least... that is what I am hoping.

Good in some places, boney in others. Looks like they opened the Front Five glades, I was very surprised by that. Lower elevation woods else where on the mountain were junk below 2500' or so. But Front Five just pulls in more snow than many other parts of the mountain at that elevation. Walked into the Tram building at 7:50am, got right in line, and still didn't make the first tram. The line wound up and down four times and right out the front door before they even sent the first tram up at 8:15am, unreal. :-o

Now that we have a proper base laid down, I'd like another one of these. Today was tough, lots of people and not all options on the table yet. Need a little more snow, a little less people, and a few more options. Still, a very good day.

+1. Not too much to add. Got there at 8:00. Ended up on the 3rd tram!! WTF!! Moderate lines at Cannonball and Tram all day.

As for Front Five Glades: Only hit Snowmaker...ouch. Base depths = 1" plus whatever was new today. Never realized the rock exposure in there. Heard good reports from Kinsman but didn't hit it.

A medicore day by most standards, great day for this year. Mostly it was just good to see smiling faces and everyone going hard. Skied with a good group including AZers Puckit and Prophet who were killing it as usual. Prophet gets props for wacky thinking on tram schedules and showing up at 6:45am. Front row parking, hour long nap, and first tram....great way to start the day!! Puckit gets props for generosity....thanks again man,
