I have a PowerShot A700. Definitely more of a point and shoot that what you're looking at, but it gets the job done. I like it so far.

But it still has full manual mode, which is way cool. IMO, you should go as big as you can with a camera, until it becomes too much of an annoyance that you don't want to ski with it anymore. I choose the a620. I just wish it had image stabilazation, which the S3 has.

I have the S2. I like it a lot more than the Nikon Coolpix it replaced in large part because I don't get the shutter lag on the S2. It's also nice to have the 12x optical zoom. The only problem is that it's most likely too big to bring with me when I'm skiing.

The image stabilization is OK...I still get blurry images at high zoom sometimes if the shutter speed is lower, but I think it can only do so much for that.

I think it's just a 5 megapixel, but for the size of pictures I normally take that's plenty.

Keep in mind, IS only really helps you keep the camera still. It doesn't help much in low light situations when the subject is moving.

The S3 is an excellent camera, certainly on the top of the list for ultrazoom cameras. It has an especially good video mode (with zoom while filming and great stereo sound) and takes extremely high quality images in good light. The only place it isn't quite up to some of the competition is in low light situations where the Fujis really shine. But there is no Fuji that really matches the features of the S3.

I find cameras of that size too big to carry while skiing (I use an ultracompact SD300) but if you feel comfortable carrying it, you won't be disappointed.
