Looking for somewhere to go this Sunday with the wife, which of these would you recommend based on:

Enough beginner and intermediate terrain for her
At least something challenging for me
Trail conditions
Crowds

I've never been to either and realize it's a holiday weekend. I'm thinking crowds will be greater at Mohawk because it' THE place to go in CT. Any advice?

I have never been to Mohawk. I have been to Catamount, quite often, not yet this year.

As far as I know, Catamount is bigger, 1000 vs. 650 vert. I would think the terrain at Catamount would be more interesting for you....and your wife might enjoy the longer runs as well.

been to mohawk and not catamount but i gotta believe catamount is a far better option for all ability levels. probably got more snow from this last clipper also. sundown picked up a whopping 2 inches, cant imagine mohawk got much more.

I have not been to Mohawk but I think Catamount would meet your needs.

I went there last Monday with my sister who hasn't skied in 20 years before this year and her family. My two boys also came with me.

It was very cold and I believe it was a major reason there was not a crowd.

That being said, I have been told that they keep their lift capacity limited to ensure the slopes do not get too crowded. Accordingly, on a nice day there could be some lift lines.

There are great beginner trails off each of the three lifts and there are challenging trails off the new quad and the old double. The trails off the triple chair range from beginner to low intermediate. That was where my sister and her family spent a lot of time.

My boys and I broke off and skied from the quad. We hit glade, catapult which were both steep. The mogul run Off Stage was also quite fun.

The Catamount trail off the old double is a fun intermediate trail with some nice rollers toward the bottom.

You can also get to Off Stage from this lift. Look for the cut throughs in the tree line between Catamount and On Stage - Shortly beyond the snow gun numbered 16 - If I recall correctly.

Conditions were great on all trails as of Monday.

Also, it is not to hard to reconnect if you get separated.

Catamount hands down. The Meadows area has tons of greens and easy blues. Just about everything skiers left is black and blue. Some are fun cruisers, others are blacks with some decent pitch. And if you like steeps hit Catapult.

Mohawk is a good place. I've always enjoyed my time there. But if you are sticking to CT, hit Sundown!

All three mountains discussed here (Catamount, Mohawk and Sundown) have good beginner terrain. Catamount is waaaaay better for an advanced skier than Mohawk.

THE place to go in CT? Sundown over Mohawk by a mile...
