:( So I must accept the numbers who still want lift served skiing in April are small. And it may not make financial sense for Hunter to lose money on us.

This is true.

With the pond skimming the place was raging on Saturday.

But for just skiing it was empty the next day.

As a passholder, they should stay open and then offer me a discount to try the Zipline. Encourage me to spend some money so they make some too.

Ski area don't exist to show off.

So 1, 3, 4 are only done in the hope of increasing lift ticket sale this season or next!

But it's not clear bragging right lead to more ticket sale, and the several season holders I happened to know are no longer skiing everyday in April because they've started golfing and biking! There goes your point 1 and 4.

I count myself as a dedicated spring skiing fan. But I had tried repeatedly and failed just as reliably to recruit others to join me skiing into the early part of summer. :( So I must accept the numbers who still want lift served skiing in April are small. And it may not make financial sense for Hunter to lose money on us.

Are we talking about Hunter or is this a flashback of discussions about Killington last year (and the years before that)?

With the new management, Killington is betting that the longer season will translate into a better bottom line. K pass holders have always argued that it does. Previous management didn't seem to believe that it was profitable. K is going for it this year. We will know soon enough whether the strategy makes financial sense. If the numbers come in a sorry state, Utah may pull the plug.

If - however - it works for Kton, it might work for Hunter to go back to their more beastly season.

Trying. Haha.

My buddy on Ski patrol says sat and sun.

Hope you are correct. Mgt is supposed ot decide tomorrow. If you look at the webcam the mtn took a hit since yesterday for sure. They don't need to run a lot of lifts. Just the 6 and B would be fine really.

Yeah - the deck was packed on Saturday, but did you notice how many folks decided to bring their own beverages... I know that beer sales are a factor they consider when deciding to stay open in the spring.. and that practice cuts into in it in a major way. I saw some girls with bottles of vodka making martini's....

I think they also have to consider what they potentially may lose to Belleayre with the $27 ticket and events on Saturday. Folks on the edge may decide to partonize them and stay. The Gore/Whiteface addition to a Bell pass is a big deal to those passholders. the Gore/Whiteface current passholders could care less that Bell is includded I am sure.

Hope to see ya'll this weekend

On Facebook's Platty last day will be this Saturday.

At a minimum this is what Belleayre and Hunter will do for sure.

The reason is all 4 mountains have volunteer patrollers on weekends. They need the volunteer patrollers to come in to take all the signage and tower pads off the mountain and store them away for the summer. They need the lift attendants to run the lifts for patrol to make this happen. Why not open the mountains on Saturday while patrol is skiing up and down clearing the gear off the mountain.

Hmm. Well don't a lot of mountains end up running the lifts anyways for mtn biking and/or tourists? Offer unpatrolled lift-served skiing or something :p

They will not remove tower pads when the trail is open! They may take them down on closed trails. Most of this activity happens with snowmobiles not lifts after the mountain is closed.

Are any of the Catskills mountains offering comps or discounts for closed mountain season pass holders? Hunter used to do this in the past if I recall.
