Certainly nothing is cheap on the mountain. Even if it's over Kingfield that's fine. I'm just looking for the cheapest room that's not going to require a two night minimum. I'm looking to make a trip in March and ski Saturday and Sunday, staying over Saturday night.

We stayed their in April and had the kitchenette unit that had a full kitchen, living room and two double beds for $50 a night. We are getting the same room now in season for $75 a night.

We are going to be skiing at Sunday River on sunday, Saddleback on monday and Sugarloaf on tuesday/wednesday, so this location will work well for us.

We have stayed at judsons in the past and the rooms at the carrabassett valley inn are the same price and much nicer. The room was $50 for a saturday night, one night stay last december. Judsons has been remodeled since I have last stayed there and I believe there is a new owner so the rooms might have improved.

This might be my choice. I think I will ski Saturday at Saddleback and Sunday at Sugarloaf. Wont be until March though.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I don't think it is there any more but I'm curious what happened to it. Anyone remember what happened to the Sugarloaf's Ski Dorm? I used to stay there back when I was in college. It was a three story bunkhouse with a big polyurethane igloo for a cafeteria. Good down home ski food for breakfast and dinner.

...up the road ...~6-8mi past Sugarloaf

deadheadskier,
Plenty of room @lower prices if, as mentioned, you look past the mountain ~6-8mi in Stratton(no town...center of ultra small village) --> White Wolf Inn(upstairs over small restaurant)...on lefthand side.. ..once past WhiteWolf stay straight(towards Eustis) and ~.5mi on lefthand side you'll see a Spillover Motel...and ~1 mile past that (on right)...is Tranquility Lodge.. (a small sign!)...actually on shore of a bay of Flagstaff Lake(TV in one leisure room, not in your private room)... *Both Spillover & Tranquility will be more (~$20 ??) than WhiteWolf (WhiteWolf staff usually leave ~8pm & go home = no service = no late hour entrance & getting keys...!)
*A LEFT on #27 takes you to village of Rangeley & Saddleback Mtn....fwiw
Stratton Diner = good & pretty cheap breakfast/lunch.
*If you do any travel @night ...there are plenty of deer & moose around... So if you eat/drink(a little) down @Tufulios(towards Kingfield from mountain access road)...keep an eye out for the animals...they're kinda tough to see @night until your lights are on em'...then it's often a little late.
Everything's a very easy drive..but your average not-wide country road...but you won't hit much traffic..

learn2turn: ...no idea...I'm a relative newcomer...

FWIW, 2-3 years ago when I thought I might be getting there late (they asked) they made some arrangement (e.g., left a key someplace, or just left the room open -- I forget) and just asked me to officially check in in the morning. Dunno if they still do that but most motels do make some accommodation for late arrivals, just as long as you give them fair warning. So ask.

I believe that the Stratton diner is no more as it was closed and had a for sale sign in the window last April.

Also the White Wolf is not the best place for a light sleeper as logging trucks pass through town 24/7, though this did not bother me.
