When I was in 7th & 8th grade we used to do Chinese Downhills at Shawnee at night before close on the Delaware trail. It's the farthest trail to skiers right & close to close, so we'd have the entire trail to ourselves. Probably something like 15 to 25 kids depending on the night, and despite some bruises it's still some of my favorite memories on skis. Absolutely no rules. Poles are weapons. Boys will be boys!

Oh man... if I ever had a time machine one of the first things I'd return to is Friday nights in high school at Mohawk. We'd get 4-6 of us in a row. The person in front of you would hold their poles backwards and you'd have to grab onto them. We'd call them "ski trains". Fun fact- you can't turn or do anything because your skis and poles are so locked in. It was really a game of chicken to see who would "break out" first. I remember we all went off the trail into the weeds at least once.

I will attribute most of my ski skills to this day to the debauchery we'd do. And it was never about the "skiing"...it was about impressing your friends with spins, tricks, doing whole trails backwards, seeing who could get the most air, etc... all on re-frozen crap snow.
