MYFOXNY.COM - A man was stabbed in a post Cinco De Mayo brawl outside of a Huntington, Long Island restaurant.

More than 100 people were involved in a fight outside Pancho Villa's Restaurant on New York Avenue early on Thursday morning, police said.

The brawl got so large that the first responding officers had to call in officers from numerous surrounding towns for backup.

It broke out around 12:30 a.m. when Ryan DiPaolo, 21, of Huntington, got into an argument with several people as he left the restaurant. The altercation grew in size and things got out of control.

Wesley Erickson, 26, of Huntington is accused of stabbing DiPaolo during the brawl. DiPaolo was treated at a hospital and released.

Ambulances were called to treat several other victims.

Matia Branch, 24, of Melville, was also arrested after she allegedly punched one of dozens of police officers who responded.

Erickson was charged with assault and resisting arrest. Police said he also has an outstanding warrant for a parole violation in Pennsylvania.

Branch was charged with harassment and resisting arrest.

Both were held overnight and were to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday

Lawyer: Defendant in assault wrongly accused

By Patricia Provenwrite the authorMay 11, 2010 | 01:51 PM
As Wesley Erickson, 26, of Huntington faces second-degree assault and resisting arrest charges in connection with the stabbing outside Pancho Villa's in Huntington last Thursday morning, his lawyer John LoTurco contends that it's a case of misidentification.

"Wesley Erickson is not the person who stabbed the victim but an innocent bystander who was misidentified as the perpetrator by an intoxicated witness," LoTurco said in a statement. He claims that police detained Erickson blocks away from the restaurant and brought the witness to his client, who was the only person standing in handcuffs when the witness was asked to identify the perpetrator. "This is a classifc example of suggestive identification procedure. We will defend our client vigorously and expect that he will be exonerated after trial."

Police reported that Erickson and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated and that Erickson fled the scene at 311 New York Ave. in Huntington. He was arrested not far away at 12:45 am. It was found that Erickson had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Pennsylvania for a parole violation. He was being held on $25,000 bond/$10,000 cash bail. Next court date: May 26.
