I am finally getting a chance to get to Colorado this coming MLK weekend. The plan is to ski Breckenridge Friday 1/15 and than find a lesser known, less expensive place for Saturday. Given that I only have one day to experience Breckenridge I want to make the most of it. Anyone have experience there and can suggest some trails I should check out? I'm looking for bowls, wide steeps, and some glades, basically I want to check out everything I can't get in New Hampshire. Also what would be the best option for avoiding the crowds on Saturday? I was thinking of getting a $60 ticket off of Liftopia to Loveland, but I'm hesitant on pre-purchasing it since they only have 20% of the mountain open right now. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Currently trying to figure out if its worth flying my skis out for 2 days.

Backside of Peak 9 and then stay up high on Peak 8 and Peak 7 (though 7 didn't exist when I was there)

Frontside Peak 9 and lower mountain Peak 8 are both a waist of time. Peak 10 has some cool shots and is a great escape on a crowded day, but the run out back to the lift is kind of a drag.

Wait a walk up weekend tag at LL is only 59. where do they get off charging 60? Buy tour ticket at King Soopers or just find a passholder and ski for under 50.

One more foot of snow and LL will have triple the current acerage with likely better snow then Breck. They open trails with deep base and soft snow. I personally would make the trek to Monarch as they are pretty much in full swing. Definately the best skiing day tripable from Summit. Stay high at Breck and get there early. Avoid the bottom at all cost.

Either way we need some friggen snow bad. I'm about ready to sacrifice a chipmunk, squirrel, or cat in no particular order.

Oh and Wa-Loaf A-basin is a pile of rocks right now. They need a serious amount of snow before anything fun opens.

Can't address the snow issue, but I don't think it is worth hauling your skis west. Some of the airlines are charging extra for skis. Rent for the conditions.

I just looked at Liftopia again and the ticket comes with $10 towards lunch so the actual ticket is only $50. Anyone have any suggestions on cheap lodging around Breckenridge or Dilion? The lowest I've been able to find is $100 a night.

I don't know about lodging so much but if you end up in breck consider taking 285 and then 9 over hoosier pass. I only say this because of the potential 70 shitshow going into that weekend. That route normally is an extra 20 minutes or so to Breck but much much less chance of sitting in traffic.

Edit-try the snowsho in Frisco. They are running @ 75 a night during your dates (thur-sat?) through expedia and it's a great location in Summit. How many are you traveling with?

Its just going to be 2 of us. I'll look into the snowshoe, thanks. So basically when I'm at Breckenridge stay high up and in the Bowls? Any other suggestions there? Anyone experience Loveland?
