I was routing for Butler, but it was a great game.

I don't watch a lot of college ball at all. There are a number of people who like the game better than the pros. I do not. As bad as the shooting is in the NBA, it's downright AWFUL in college hoops. My other big complaint is the 35 second shot clock. way too long. I find it surprising that the NCAA women's clock is shorter than the mens.

As a former college coach the game has morphed today into a sort of "Advanced Intuitive Alley Ball " game where any notion of repeatable discernable patterns have given way to the chaos which now seems to prevail.

The kids today are so much bigger and athletic in every way and seem more like aircraft carriers than swiftboats , yet the "zebras" have almost taken the game away by what they no longer call an infraction --pity in this ole coach's opinion . One hardly ever sees 3 second calls , traveling, carrying , or even charging calls especially if franchise players are involved .

What results is no longer a "dance", it is more likje "uncontrollable fury" unleashed and "smash mouth" in the paint . And foul shooting is a lost art .

I am admittedly a dinosaur but When i coached we seriously drilled that skill at EVERY PRACTICE. At the end of practice they had to make 15 in a row or take laps . My teams shot very well from the" FREE" throw line ( easiest points in the game) and won games as a result that we may not have won otherwise .

Call it a pet peeve but it is one of the reasons i no longer enjoy watching EXCEPT in the Final Four .

I did however really enjoy watching Butler in this years tourney --- so close for a small school

Butler shot something like 33% in the Final Four.

My bigger issue is the 35 second shot clock. At minimum, bring it down to 30 like the women.

While filled with drama, the National Championship game was one of the more boring games I've ever watched. Both teams essentially jerked off with the basketball for 25-30 seconds often passing up open looks at the hoop only to take a bad shot with 5 seconds left on the shot clock.

Spoken like a true NBA fan ;-) ----it's called "D"----something that isn't played in the NBA.

I really don't understand why there's such national hatred of Duke. Just because they've had the most successful program, with the best coach, for the last 25 years, that makes them so hate-worthy? No other elite program seems to garner so much ire.

The Dookies often project an elitist attitude , which rightfully or not irritates many !

Coach K for all the downhome TV imagery has a rep of being a slightly less offensive version of HIS mentor Bobby Knight.

That said : Duke's record over time is impressive and certainly speaks well for the program and those who are involved

To me they are an overrated program, very good, but not as good as the media wants us to think they are.

Let me explain to u what happened in durham in 1980. Coach K was hired. He took one look at the legendary Dean Everett Smith & did EXACTLY what DES had done the past 20years. It worked!! everyone is jealous of someone who works hard & succeds. sad, but true!!

Couldn't agree more, and I'd add offensive rebounding, ball movement, and overall intensity to the list. I went to the Knicks-Celtics game on Tuesday, which went down to the wire but ended in a 104-101 Knicks victory. There is just no comparison between the atmosphere and intensity of a college game and that of an NBA game. NBA games are entertaining, with a carnival atmosphere and unbelievable offensive playmaking ability, but they are nothing like their college counterpart. I guess if you never developed any college allegiances (my wife and I each went to ACC schools...hers unfortunately rhymes with Puke), I can understand why you might prefer the NBA. Otherwise, I don't get it.

I'll give you that there's better D in college ball.

35 second clock definitely needs to go though. It should never take more than 15-20 seconds to execute an offensive play and get a good shot off.

Passing the ball just to pass is pointless.
