On our recent vaca up in Cape Cod I took my boys whale watching.

My son took the following pics on my crappy camera. Awesome time!

Awesome pictures! I haven't been on a whale watch in years ... one of my favorite things to do at the Cape! You lucked out in seeing so many different sides. The breeching shot is pretty cool.

Nice! You should send those to the NE Aquarium or whoever tracks whales...they can ID it with the fluke pattern.

We went out on the Dolphin Fleet and each trip has a naturalist on board who knows the whales. He was able to ID over 1/2 the whales spotted.

Not included in the photos (because unlike my son, I suck at photography) was a 20' minke whale surfing in the ships wake as we rode out to the grounds. He/she (?) stayed in our wake for over 10 minutes. The naturalist said he was just "hitching a ride", not unlike bike racers drafting each other. When he got to the place he was planning to go he peeled off, breached and three times over the course of maybe two minutes.

We've gone on Dolphin Fleet before. Good stuff! The last trip was pretty foggy and we didn't see many whales but the couple we did got really close to the boat. It was on our first whale watch that we found a juvenile humpback breeching. Cool sight!

Lived here my whole life and have never stepped foot on a whale watch boat. Don't like the touristy things, seen them plenty of times on own boat even from shore. Will say I would never be caught dead on a duckboat, those a corny. The whakle watch sounds/looks cool, but would like to tie some fishing into it.

We were rounding the race about 7PM and the whole place was on fire. Birds slamming bait, Fish rocketing out of the water... If I had a line I would have trolled it back in :spin:

That makes me feel much better than the trip to the beach today did. Thanks!

Not a problem! I found some SCARRIER pics too that I refrained from posting for fear of potentially causing Warp Daddy another episode of heart problems ;)
