Good conditions as you would expect, however the detachable Quad was down due to an "electrical problem" from what I was told. This has happened before during a vacation week, unreal. Also, the other lifts were incrediably slow and stopping intermittently which was surprising because the crowd was not large. I do Cranmore because of convinience- my kids age and ability etc..however this mountin needs to get their act together with the lift operations.

Lifts stop more frequently during vacation periods because you have a significantly higher percentage of once a year and/or beginner skiers with less experience. These skiers tend to cause lift stopages more often and there are more of these skiers during holiday weeks than any other.

Lifts break down, it happens. At least Cranmore has a back up fixed grip that goes to the summit. I doubt Cranmore wanted it to happen ever, let alone during a vacation week. But the fact is that every ski area in the world has had everyone of their lifts break down at some point.

We got up after NYE drinking and stopped at Stan and Dan's to work out some boot issues my girlfriend has been having. That took about an hour and we went straight to Cranmore because we had a couple of free passes. it was looking real good from the parking lot but once I turned the engine off the wind hit the car hard and I had a moment where I really felt my hangover and all of the will to ski drained from my body. Very unusual for me and I should have pushed through it.

I prefer to ride that HSQ but I am familiar with how that mountain is run and can say they do not screw around when it comes to keeping lifts spinning.

I hear G-money - I'm sure it's more about the hassle factor with a bunch of kids with limited time on his hands. Been there, I feel his pain. Money spent on lifts and equipment, gas and Dunkin donuts doesn't come back. Getting a comp doesn't really help much for those with limited time. Every mountain needs some sort of contingency plan.

The only times I hear of a complete stoppage at multi-lift mountains is at Mt. Snow, where winds have shut everything down. Been there, done that. Fortunately I was skiing without kids, so hopping in the car and hitting Magic was an easy proposition.
