Guests enjoyed 40-degree temperatures, sunshine and celebrations.
MT. CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. - November 23 - The sun was shining, the music was blasting, the energy was on high and the lift tickets were free. Today, guests at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) had the picture perfect opening day for the 2011-2012 winter season. Celebrating its 50th birthday, the resort had a champagne toast to start the day and get the lifts spinning, followed by traditional birthday games, a 50-pound pinata, birthday cake and live music. With all of the festivities, the skiing was the icing on the cake. Guests found perfectly groomed runs and some powder stashes to make the most of their first day on the slopes.

For the birthday party:
1,200 balloons
1,620 feet of streamers
2 bands & 1 DJ
50-pound pinata (before filling): included 6 telephone books, 30 newspapers, 20 magazines, 20 trail maps, 10 gallons of paper mache mix, 2 rolls of Duct Tape and 50 man hours to build. The pinata was filled with over 2,000 pieces of candy, 500 toys, t-shirts, stickers, lanyards, posters and gift certificates for an Uley's Sleigh ride dinner, a Snowcat Driving experience and a CB Card.
Early Season Package It's another La Nina year and that could mean exceptional early season skiing and riding at CBMR. From November 22 - December 2, the resort is offering lodging and lift tickets for $69 per person, per night. From December 3 - 15, the rate is $89 per person, per night.
